Post ring around the bay

Okay, lemme get a quick sense of this. I'm thinking that in early December, after everyone's done with T-Day, and well before X-mas, we can do a tour/cruise. We'd start in Golden Gate Park, go up the GGB to San Rafael, go to Sonoma/Napa, and have lunch there. Then we'd go down 680 to Walnut Creek, continue down to Milpitas, and pull over for tea/snacks. Then we'll finish the trip back in San Francisco. Sorry if I'm not articulating it too well ... I had a little more to drink than expected, cuz the bartender was really cute. Dumb story. Anyway, who's up for this?

I almost want to say to spice it up a little bit. Make it rally style? No, not the off-road stuff, but have checkpoints and each person keep track of their own time. This is not to promote speeding or reckless driving. The key point of this would be to complete each stage within the allocated time. At the end of each stage would be a scenic point or point of interest. At the end of the rally, everyone would meet at some designated place to shoot the breeze.
Just an idea...

I like this idea! However, not being a North Bayer, I'll need help in picking out good spots. I know we have some North Bayers here, so let's have some suggestions from them.

As for date/time, I've got 12/6 as the date, since I have a non-Z friend who wants to do this also but he's going to Korea on 12/13, and any time after that we're looking at X-mas. I'd like to peg a starting time at 10am in GG Park (I'm thinking California Academy of Science). We'll go up to North Bay, maybe meet up at a winery, and pull over for a photoshoot. Then we'll continue on down to Walnut Creek, where we can do a shoot in downtown, or we can continue up to Mt. Diablo for a shoot (or both). We'd continue down 680 until we hit Milpitas. I'm thinking that by that time we can grab tea/snacks either in Warm Springs or at D&B. From there, we can journey on 680 to 280, get off on Page Mill, and pull into Stanford for a shoot, after which we can probably start considering dinner. If so, there's a great Jamaican place in Palo Alto. After that, we'll trek back north on 280, and finish up in Golden Gate Park.

How's that sound?

I am in. A month back, I drove in Tiburon area (above GGB), I think it is called 136 or 36. Nice road around the bay with great views.

Hi,
I'm in Marin, and I'd go from there along for the ride, but there may be much better routes to take as well as destinations than those you are thinking of. Lots of fun 2 lane roads as you head north from Marin. I'd suggest 101 > Lucus Vally Rd > Nicasio > Hicks Valley Rd > Chelano Valley Rd > Tomales >(stop for coffee) > up Hwy 1 to say, Bodega Bay, (maybe Lunch) >>> whatever then.
In the end barrel down 101 to home.

bubba, those are some great suggestions. I'd like to do a NorCal coast run some time, but for this particular event, I'm trying to tie all the outliers together for a ring around the Bay. What can you suggest for getting from San Rafael/Marin over to, say, Benicia or Martinez? (I'm also trying to avoid bridge tolls.)

Well, one could: San Rafael/Richmond bridge > Richmond Parkway > 80 > 4 > Martinez. Pretty much freeway all the way.
Or 101 > 37 > Vallejo > Carcinez (sp) Bridge > Benica/Martinez.

Okay, I think 101->37->80->4->680 is going to be our way through the North Bay, unless our North Bay friends have better ideas.

The whole of the trip will be GGP->GGB->101->37->80->4->680->Mt. Diablo->680->Landess->D&B->880->237->101->Palo Alto->280->19th->GGP.

How's that sound, to all who're interested?
