Anyone headed to Laguna 12/1-2 with TMR? We will have at least 3 Zs there.
A SpecZ? I don't know of any others that have fully completed prep of a SpecZ. None have shown up for any of the NASA races at least. Maybe next year.
Yes, power is advantageous at Laguna, but of course only to a point. Good brakes and ***** to push the brakes are a very close 2nd, hence why we scoop up those other cars that should be faster than us but aren't. I agree that your 500hp toy should be capable of a solid sub 1:40, like 1:35, but none of that matters until the car proves it can last without failure, overheating of oil/water, sound, etc. There were two supercharged 350s there a few weeks ago, and both ran in the 1:45-1:49 range. Power can't make up all of it.

My car wasn't getting hot - under 220 degrees after 5 laps. I have also run it in 100 degree temps at hillclimb with no issues. Remember I have upgraded higher efficiency racing radiator, big oil cooler, bigger finned higher capacity oil pan. I'm not too worried about overheating. I'm talking to guy about dry sump next. As long as you don't over rev VQ 37 temps should be fine.
If your a driver power is everything. But my little 170whp 914 used to click off 1:41 lap times all day long but then it weighed about 2000 lbs!

Just wait until next season! There is a shop being built next to my place that will be building a couple spec Z cars with fast drivers. The spec car that ran is in progress. I may rent one in 2014.

Can't swing it. I have to install oil cooler, brake ducts, change brake fluid, pads, oil, coolant before I can track again. I'm gonna try and get it done ASAP I'd like to do thunderhill Atleast 2x while I'm home for winter break.

Nice to see this thread is still active. Had another track day and was seeking the advice of the gurus here.
Had a very wet Laguna Seca track day last week. First time driving on a completely wet track. Ran first session without traction control and could not keep the car under control. Ended up going off track so spent the rest of the day with TCS on.
I had a very hard time driving with TCS. Dont remember if the Z is like this but once TCS is initiated, it wont shut off until I shift or coast steady for a long time. So although it might assist me on a turn, I can never regain acceleration. I end up shifting up and just crawling my way out of the turn. Any advice on this?
Here are a couple of clean laps with minimum slip. I dont track often anymore but was trying to remember to turn in later. Dont know if it was due to the rain but I think my lines are still a bit off.

Rob and his crew have been busy on my 370z.
Carbonfiber hatch painted and polycarbonate window installed
Cut fuel tank in half
Car is down to 2800 lbs now. I have titanium exhaust system coming this week that will drop another 40 lbs. So car when finished should be at 2750 lbs.
Car has lost 500 lbs since I drove it first time on the track. It's also gained 137 HP!

It has been awhile since last time I went to track. My next track day will be at Thunderhills Feb 8. Anybody wanna go together? I go through NCRC.
