Default AX fans what coilover for my 370Z?

I found screaming deal on new KW Variant 3 coil overs - under $2000. What are your thoughts for these on BSP car?

I was aiming for JRZ but they are over twice as expensive and I dont think I will get twice as much performance. Also allows me to put money into swaybars and other mods. Is there another coilover I should consider that works well on the 370Z?

What are the spring rates on the KW3's? If you are building to win I'd stick with penske, jrz, moton, ast, etc. Just my .02.

Kw v3 are crap for track/autox use. I'd get something else instead.

I'd likely chuck the springs and put swift springs on them like I did on my Boxster. And I built a NT winning car on KW Variant 2's. Lol! KW does use Koni tubes. But yeah you are probably right I will likely need to go with better damper. Does Moton make a coil over for our car?

Motons

I know that the s2k guys have all but ditched the use of the V3's because they can't support the high spring rates needed. I think they peak in the 650lb area.

I don't have any personal experience with AST, but I know several that run them with great success. Plus they offer contingency money.

I've heard good things about AST as well.. In fact, the coilovers I'm getting on the Miata have AST shocks.

KW offers custom valving and swift springs fit just fine on their collars? Guess S2000 crowd isnt as creative as the budget Porsche crowd?

Here's my KWs with swift spring on my Boxster

I'm back to looking at JRZ now. Looking at spring rates of 650 lbs front and 550 lbs rear. Double adjustable RS. $5K argh but everyone says they are amazing.

Why not just get the club sport KW's then? Price is still lower than most, but can handle 800ish pound springs the off the shelf V3's can't.

I think the club sports go to a full coil over setup on all four corners? If that's the case then (at least for the 350z) it's not SP legal

You could also get truechoice to make you some DA koni's to your wants/needs.

Where do you see that in the rules? I'm checking to see what the setup is.

15.8.A
Springs must be of the same type as the original (coil, leaf, torsion bar, etc.) and except as noted herein, must use the original spring attachment points. This permits multiple springs, as long as they use the original mount locations. Coil spring perches originally attached to struts or shock absorber bodies may be changed or altered, and their position may be adjustable. Spacers are allowed above or below the spring.

That's what I've got coming for the front, just standard OTS rear's but will likely go for a rebuild of those at some point.

I am probably going to send my off the shelf tc klines for a rebuild after this season to true choice. I waited to late in the game to get them done before the season started this year. There is a bit of seepage from the fronts (as usual).

Ok still going club sport will just use regular spring in the rear. I may be headed to SM2 however. I'm not one to make compromises on cars I take to the track.

You planning on adding another 150+whp? I suppose I don't need to tell you how difficult SM2 is, though.

Grant, or Charlie Sheen?

If it were me, I would stick with prepping the car for SP and prep it to the max, before considering going to another class where it has no shot of being competitive unless you triple what it would cost to prep for SP.

But, hey, it's your money.

I'll beat you in your SP or SM prepped car, doesn't matter to me

Charlie does drugs and lives with two 20 something hookers/**** stars. I'm much more sedate as I married my high school sweetheart and I have a dog and no drugs. And I dont think Charlie can drive. ..well we might have that in common!

Here's my problem, I'm a multi discipline motorsports guy. I like track and hillclimb driving too. NASA has completely different classing system which doesnt really have penalty for full coilover like I'm considering, I can use monoballs and specially designed rear suspension too that SP doesnt allow. The full coilover helps eliminate some issues as I'm learning from the Grand Am team. When I said I couldn't use coilover in the rear I got classic funny look from non AX guys. Like who thought of that?!

SCCA rules which allow some cars in SP to use coilovers because of spring location and other not seems really silly. Suppose thats how I ended up with a prepared car in SCCA Solo. But I'm really fighting urge to go that route with the 370Z.

Its more like I will be competitive in track classes and suck in AX classes. Not spend money to make my car nationally competitive for Solo. Honestly I'm more of a track guy at heart. I like AX because its easy and close to my house and its cheap. If I had unlimited funds I'd be on track every weekend.

However I will go to extra expense of buying full coilovers and dissembling the rear and only using the damper for now.

Honestly looking at how well the car performs on stock suspension I'm wondering now if I made right decision leaving BS? Could have saved a ton of money and probably been just as fast as I am now. No that wasnt a consideration! I cant stand stock cars! I listen to crazy SCCA stock class guys bending parts to get negative camber (accident damage), putting overly big front sways on with front tires that are too big, I just cant ever see myself doing that.

So guess that means for at least this season I'm ASP or hopefully BSP. Unless I buy a turbo kit!

Oh wait can I use a solid mount for the coilover at top mount????? Shoot me now if I cant!

If I had a new car (as you) I would totally be running a stock class, but that's what I've always done. As for "bending" parts, accident damage, etc, that would totally be illegal, and anything out of spec would be, so point those guys out and we'll see how far they get in the protest process
