Greetings gents
Well gents I have a question about registering a california car in GA, the main reason I am asking is emissions. There is so many nicely motorswapped/turbo/ s/c cars out there that sell for cheap and I was looking for a way to get around the smog ****'s since all the "nice" smog places have been busted.
I have a address in GA, and that county doesnt require smog would it be as simple as taking my car registration there to the GA dmv?also would I have to have the insurance for that address too or could I use my CA address?

I think you have to drive out there everytime and deal with it. I have a friend that has a EVO VIII with washington plates and he has to drive out there to do reg everytime it comes around.
More than likely, you'd have to go there with the car , for the initial registration. After that, you may be able to renew by mail or online.

I've done the opposite. I've registered my Virginia bought cars (including my project Z) with Cali. I get ommitted from the Cali emissions test because I'm outa state. I called the Cali DMV a bunch of times and I got a bunch of "NO" until I talked to someone experienced. My registeration was all done using regular mail. As a matter of fact, my friend registered his vehicle with Oregan and he's in VA also. We're both in the military.

so I would prob have to buy the car there/register the car there, ship/drive it back to california, after that I should be able to send registration in by mail or online correct?
also what about insurance?could I use my address or the out of state addy?

You don't necessarily have to buy the car there, but depending on how **** they are, they may want to "visually inspect" the car... before you register it the first time. And typically, yes, you can renew by mail.
I'm stationed in Hawaii right now, and my Z is still registered in NC. NC requires emissions, which Hawaii does not to, and with my orders I get a waiver for that, AND I can renew online, and the new registration is sent to me in the mail.
As far as insurance goes, check with the state. They may require you to have coverage that is relevant for that state. Again, another example... My insurance had to be adjusted to be "Hawaii-approved" in order to drive on the streets. And I needed a local address, in Hawaii to base the insurance off of.

No. Call the GA DMW and tell them what you want to do. If you're active duty then tell them that you're a GA resident and you're currently stationed in CA. If you're not in the military then you probably will not be able to register your vehicle with another state and you'll have to get a CA license.
A friend of mine from San Diego moved to Virginia Beach. He's not in the military and the cops have given him warnings for not getting a VA license and VA tags/plates.
