Default San Rafael Nissan no more

My friend tells me San Rafael Nissan is no more. My friend had a maintenance appt there yesterday and they called him up to cancel because the dealership is now closed. Odd, since I've never heard anything but good things about them.

You might have me to thank for that. I made a big fuss over it... it was a common practice before... at least in the '03 models.

At least I'll be getting the TK bumper some time in the future...

I started my search for a 350z at Steven's Creek Nissan. Steven's Creek had the exact car I wanted on the lot(CS performance). They told me they would not let me even test drive the car until I was approved by finance and they ran a credit check. After sitting down with them for about an hour and going through all the rigamarole, I realized what they meant was actually I had to buy the car before I test drove. They told me this was their standard operating procedure on the 350z because they wanted to keep the miles low, and I could always "get out" of the agreement if I didn't like the way the car test drove. They would not put this "get out" part down in writing for me. Once I realized that, I walked out.

Next day I went to Capitol Nissan. I told them that I wanted to test drive a 350z and I am seriously looking at buying a car but I wanted a test drive. 2 minutes later, I had the keys and was test driving the track edition. No pressure sales at Capitol; I told them I liked the car, but I needed to think it over some more and get some insurance quotes. I did my homework and came by the next day and bought my 350z from Capitol. They did not have the car I wanted, but they did a dealer trade at Steven's Creek. They delievered the car kind of late at night so they didn't have time to take the Steven's creek plate holder off.

The next day I get a call from Steven's Creek salesmen asking me if I am still interested in the car. I told him, "nope, I already got one". I think he kind of knew he had lost a sale because the car I wanted wasn't on the lot when he came in. I straight told him that the change their standard operating procedure sucks, and they are going to lose sales like this if they continue. I don't know if they have changed...

I drove by San Rafael Nissan on Saturday (4/24/04) it looked open and had new cars in front.
I hope they are not out of business they are looking for a new roadster for me.

I wanted to keep it short and sweet (the sales rep called me daily for a week to followup), but when I finally came in to talk numbers, they were totally ridiculous. They were asking about $47K +T&L for a Touring Roadster with S-Tune Exhaust and springs/shocks. Needless to say, I gave the sales manager 10 minutes to reconsider, he didn't, and I walked.

Ended up going to Capitol Nissan. Told them the Stevens Creek experience. They were a full 180. Great group of people, especially since they were open to give their parts and service dept.'s business, and incorporated Nismo mods into the purchase price upon my request. Picked up a Silversone on their lot. Still paid well under MSRP (plus a decent break on the Nismo parts). Nonetheless, may have been the fact I was acquiring a roadster on a raining Friday in December.
I had a very similar experience with the same dealers only from the servicepoint of view. I went to Stevens Creek to have my A/C trensioner pulley replaced. They refused to fix under warranty.

Went to Capitol Nissan in San Jose. Mr. Earl Hart is awesome. Fixed under warranty no questions asked.
