Unhappy Need a new windshield.... where to go??

hi everyone.
well the little rock chip on my windshield has now turned into a huge line covering half the windshield just above the windshield wipers.

so now i need a new windshield. any recommendations on where to go?? (preferably somewhere along the penninsula)

should i get oem or ppg?
i know some of you guys had your windshield replaced, so any recommendations or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

**Jason (failsafe): i know you had yours replaced.... hows it holding up?

I would definitely recommend going with the PPG. It looks exactly like the Nissan glass at 1/3 of the price. Mine cracked again- my windshields seem to be a magnet for rocks. I've never had a car that attracts so many rocks, not sure if it's the angle of the windshield or what.

well. i'm gonna go thru insurance. i'll pay that $100 or $125 deductible, my mom said that it will not raise the rates or anything like that so its all good. so any good/recommended installers or places to get this done at?

also, i read that theres some antenna in the windshield that has to do with the homelink system... is that true? i don't want the new windshield to disable my homelink system. cuz you know i like to open all 3 garage doors at once!!

I went to a place off Steven Creek. Nothing special but they did a decent job. Not sure about the home link antenna. I know the PPG glass is an exact dupicate and even comes premounted for the rear view mirror. I didn't see any wiring or anything special on the windshield and the guy never mentioned anything.

We all know the real reason you like home link is so you can drive down the street trying to randomly open other peoples garages.

I got my windshield replaced at Performance Nissan. Retail price is 800+ for OEM. Not sure about PPG.

I was quoted $940 P/L for the OEM glass by my dealer. I had the PPG installed at a local glass shop for $335 P/L.

OEM Nissan front windshield, 834.14 list price. I work at a body shop in downtown SF. Difference between an aftermarket glass and OEM isnt much of a difference except you wont have the Nissan sticker on it. If you want to come by here I can have my glass guy here, theyre Mexicans but they do really great work. Ive dealt with a lot of other glas companies in the city and these guys are by far the best with the best prices. 415.495.2236 ask for Andy. 530 Bryant St SF 94107

Oh and BTW, you might have to change your glass moulding as well.

thanks projectalpha.
i actually called serramonte nissan today and they referred me to a place in SF called MAZ. i called them and they told me that they can get me a ppg windshield for $300 installed. she claimed that all the necessary antenna and rear view mirror mounts are already there. so i guess i'll be getting one from them sometime next week.

Michelle,
If you're going through your Insurance, why don't you go with the OEM glass? You pay the same deductible anyway.

I just talked to my glass guy, for PPG glass they will do it for 275. For a different a/m glass called American glass, theyll do it for 200.

they said it'll take a week to get the oem glass.
is there a big difference between ppg and the nissan one??
the lady at MAZ said the only difference is the little nissan logo imprinted on the glass, otherwise its the same (but then again she may be just a salesperson trying to make a sale).

Does anyone know where to get this 'PPG' glass in Canada? A huge rock hit my windshield a few months ago, and now a rather large crack has joined it.

I live in Alberta, no one seems to have anything but Nissan Glass. I would drive to BC as well.

thanks.
