Question Do cops EVER use X-band radar in bay area?

Just got my Valentine 1 installed (already saved my *** from a ticket! Love that thing!), and I've noticed that even in "L" mode it still keeps detecting all the supermarkets in the area (X-band). I'm thinking about turning off the X-band, so I got a question for you guys with radar.

Have you ever seen cops use X-band radar in the bay area? If so, where and when? Thanks!

And you were able to see the cop? Positive ID that it was X-band?
Maybe I'll have to keep it on then.

As i mentioned, i dont recall the incidents when it was x-radar, but ive been gunned many times on the street and on freeways and it always is from a cop... only other times i know its not is near shopping areas and speed check points

I've never encountered an x band copper here, but I keep mine in L mode just in case. You can pretty much tell when you're around a supermarket plaza. V1 is the best detector out there and has proven itself over and over again - even against donut eaters around the bend!

i have never seen cops using x-band in the bay area. I keep my V1 on L mode all the time, and haven't had any problems.

i've heard from numerous sources that they don't, but not from any credible souce. For the record, I have never seen an xband alert from my V1 that I even though might be a cop. For those of you that don't know, you can turn off any of the bands completely. The details are here: http://www.valentine1.com/lab/MikesLabRpt3.asp
there are some other interesting things you can set also. There is one that raises the strength of the ka band display (just the display/sound not sensitivity) that sounds interesting.

Hey any of you guys have pc's in your Z?

I finally got a V1 last week My old crappy Uniden finally burned out and I used it as an excuse to get the V1.
I can say from past experiencs with various radar detectors that I have never seen a cop using X band. It's always door sensors that trigger the X. But personally I keep X band on just in case.

Thanks for all the input. I'll leave it on for a while and maybe shut X-band off if it gets too annoying.

Got the V1 last week, right before a long road trip up hwy 1 to the Mendocino area. Didn't see any cops on hwy 1, but we took hwy 101 on the way back, and the V1 just paid for half of itself! I was cruisin about 85, not too many cars around, and as I was coming around a corner, the KA starts steadly increasing showing "ahead", so I hit the brakes, get to 65, and as I come around the corner, sure enough, there's smoky waiting to nab someone. I kept my eye on him in the rear view, and after about 20 sec his lights come on and he pulls out.... but it wasn't for me! SUV a couple hundred yards back gets nabbed and pulled over! HAHAHA! That would have been me! I had a smile on my face for the next hour. Well worth the $400!

PS. On the same road trip, during a run on a small hwy through the wine country, I saw all together a Dodge Viper, Porsche 911 Turbo, Lamborgini Diablo, two Saleen S7s, a few high end Ferraris, and several more Porsches. Like 5 million $ in cars went by in just a few seconds! My jaw hit the floor like the Swedish Bikini Team just drove by topless in convertibles. What a trip...

I also have bel985 and have seen it used ONCE going through a crap town. My guess is their dept couldn't upgrade. That was over 3 years ago too, so I'm pretty sure they're all gone now.

I got tagged with laser in milpitas on the 238(?) I think heading into mountain view a couple of times.. luckily I wasn't speeding..

as for the x band, from my understanding mainly city cops use x band and chp use k and ka band.. I was coming down a long stretch of road at 1am in fremont between 680 and 580 and got a weak x band reading.. my friend was a good block ahead of me when it went off and I kind of slowed down since there were no shopping centers in that area when a cop just turned on its light and swung out from one of the side streets and pulled my friend over.. I went past them turned into the first shopping center which was about a mile away and just chilled there for 30 mins.. according to my friend he heard the cop radio in to another cop telling them to look out for me.. so yea, I think they still use x band, just not chp

oh yea, I have a bel 985.. the only advantage that the V1 have over the bel and escort is the directional arrows.. other than that I've read that the V1 gave the most false readings of the top three but the coverage is comparable

Sagi, thanks for that! I was about to turn off my x-band, but if what you said is true, then I better keep it on for those a**hole milpitas/fremont cops.

Just got back from a road trip to Bakersfield, and the V1 found every cop along the way (all Ka) before I could even see them, hehe, I really like that radar!

I've noticed that some of the radars that they place on the side of a street to display how fast you're going use the X-band, although I've seen more that use the K-band. The only time I react is when I hear the distinctive chirp of the Ka-band, because 9 times out of 10, it's a cop.
