That's kinda what I figured. What's the rules on performance mods? I see you got a whole Sh!tload of them? Are headers, plemum spacers, CAI, etc okay? All you need is that recon inspection thing? I'm looking to continue to mod my car, I'm not into the body kits, crazy rims etc, I'm only looking to spend my hard earned $$ on stuff that'll make my Z go faster, stop quicker and turn better. I read above in another post about the suspension rules, anything lower that 1 1/2 can get you in trouble? If I mod the suspension, I'd be an upgrade to the '06 OEM or the NISMO S-tune suspension so that's probably not going to even become an issue. Sorry for all the questions, just trying to get an idea of what to expect over there. I must say, this is all much simpler over here in FL.

yeah it took friggin 8 months of asking begging and pleading to finally get it.

It also helps to get in good with the hobby shop guys on hickam. They have some good info on the recon laws. Thats info they don't give up until after you failed then they let you know.

Why,you ask? Here's why. Found out this lovely tidbit of info... By Hawaii statute the inspection is over A) when you pass or B) When you fail. Sounds simple?

Think about it, you fail due to your tint; right? They are not obligated to inspect your car further. So you fix your tint, they find the rims. You fix the rims they find the lowered body. and so on and so on.

That seems shiatty, but its a loop hole no one saw until too late. Can any one say LOBBIEST AT THE STATE HOUSE? They get there's and you get f'ed in da booty trying to get this crap done. Yeah it sucks.

Even worse when you get into the state system. Say because of too low of a drop. So you go in for Recon because you couldn't pass your safety. Well your tint passed, "most places lets 29 slide" on the outside. Well state law is 35, correct me if I'm wrong. At the state recon inspection they have the right to inspect your vechile all over not just the drop. Well you did the drop right and they give you a recon sticker. HOWEVER, they pop a light meter on your windows and they drop a 34. They can void your safety on the spot. Note that you had illgal tint. You may get fined, may not. Well since the state voided it you have to go back and get it cert there.

You see the downward spiral? You think this crap is crazzy and paranoid? Think again. My coworker just had it happen. Had to go in for his wheels. They said his wheels were good but popped a light meter on the tint and IT WAS 34. They made him peal it before he left; fined him per window; got his safety revoked and had to get his safety done there.

You say 34 on the window how can that be? A little thing called factory tinted window. The slight tint on the window, depending on manufacturer, can add 1% to 5% to the darkness. So I guess Mazda does the 1% road. He had legal tint and now he don't according to the state.

OK enough is enough. luv peace and hair greece

Holy crap! That is insane! I already miss FL and I haven't even left yet. That seals the deal man, I'm getting 35% tint and leaving my suspension and wheels stock. At least this way, i should be able to avoid the dreaded recon inspection. Damm.

Damn Hawaii is serious. I'm glad I was never stationed there. I was stationed in Puerto Rico and they did not care.

Wheels are fine, you just have to stay stock diameter on the tires. so basickly you an plus 2 and still be ok. Just make sure the tires have the correct aspect ratio.

I was hating the idea of Hawaii for the car at first but when you read more and actualy get more time here on island you will get to know more what you can and cant do. So far I havent needed a recon yet.

Well, that gives me hope 'cause if you haven't needed recon yet, looking at your sig, then there's hope for the rest of us.

So it's really about the aspect ratio's for the wheels/tires then? Cool, my old lady should be GTG then since she's running 18x81/2 fronts with 245/40 tires and 18x91/2 rears with 275/40 tires. I think that'd be okay.

Oh yeah your golden, My wheels are 18X9 F 18X10 Rear I got 275/40 rear. Looking at going to 295/35 rear when I get through these. Most of the stuff in the sig is waiting to come. But all are with in Hawaii legal.

I got an idea how y'all can pay off those turbo kits real quick: Just sell rides in your Z's for $5 bucks a pop! Hell, me and the old lady will be the first two! I can't wait to check out those twins man, you're my hero.

BTW, (flame suit on), I sold my Z and got an '06 STi. Yeah, I know, I'm a traitor, but that car is awesome! Basically, the wife and I talked and we had 3 cars, the two Z's and a toyota 4x4 RAV4. I didn't want to pay to ship 2 cars over to HI, (USAF pays for one) so since we would go down to two cars, I needed something that could haul more than one passenger and had some luggage capacity etc. So, the STi or EVO obviously came to mind and I like the Subie more than the Mitsu. Well, more accurately, Mitsubishi the company has had a lot of troubles and I don't really see that changing while Subaru's doing pretty well. Plus I like the new STi styling, it's way better in person, pics definitely don't do it justice. It's my first turbo car and I'm hooked.

Hey no flames for me. I've gotten rid of some really great cars for less reasons than practicality. I gave my Blown 73 LT-1 camero up as a gift to my dad. Here's a pic of my dad in it.

That's one helluva father's day gift man! Very badass. I still have a soft spot for old american iron. There's something very cool about big displacement V-8's.

Thanks for not flaming me on the STi. The way I see it, I've got the best of both worlds now seeing as how the wife still has her 05 Z. I think the mod bug is really biting her now, she's been talking about adding an exhaust, maybe even later on getting a vortech S/C. All fine by me!

I kept getting owned by a ****in' 06 STI yesterday. I thought my stock Z could at least hang after 50 but it was more like 100 where I even seen myself beginning to catch up.

yeah the STI is quicker off the line from stock Z due to the 4wheel bit. It runs out of steam at the top end if you got the ballz to go that far
From a roll they are close due to the STI is already moving it has a tendency to switch to rear quicker from a roll.

But yeah from a stomp we're used like a cheap trick. Convience him he has an advantage due to the turbo. But a FI Z's has elephant ballz compared to the STI. Old saying goes no replacement for displacement! So same PSI on the Z we can piz on them all day long.

Got the pockets, and the time, you can geter done

My goal is to own every car on island thats street legal daily driven. Gonna run 2 settings 450WHP and a 550+WHP setting. All it will be is a throw of some dip switches.

And the world may never know...

as soon as my twins come in it will be all about time at that point. Need to get heat wrap for the turbos and fuel linews going down that area. Not necessarly good for fuel to boils near the exhaust.

Holy **** that was funny! Nothing better than bad rap from a white guy with an English accent. that made my day.

Your right about the STi vs. Z thing, from a dig my car pulls like a mule but from a roll it's definitely going to be a lot closer and more of a driver's race. I don't think I'll want to tangle with your Z when you're done building it though, from a roll or standing start, at least not until I build the hell outta my Subie, (that is if I keep her long enough ). It'll be like that new Eclipse commercial where as your driving around cars are all bowing down to ya.
