Sorry about bumping horrible old thread i believ in the three RRR's
How is traffic from Makaha to Wahiawa either using the highway or Kolekole Rd...
Which is better?
Roads?
camped out cops if any?
Is it worth living in Makaha if I work in Wahiawa?
thank you...

to the OP. you said you want something close to hickam. moanalua and salt lake would be the perfect place for you to look for a house. its in the middle of everything, you hardly catch traffic, and there's always back roads that you can take when you get familiarize with the area.
I lived in Ewa, but don't now. The homes are lovely and expensive (Ocean Pointe Model 403), but the traffic is horrible. I don't know if the infrastructure will ever catch up. However, if you have odd shifts, the traffic won't be so bad.
I grew up in Kaimuki as a townie, but now even town traffic sucks. I also lived in Waikele and that was pretty sweet.
The new military developments near Hickam look pretty good, too, so I wouldn't rule that out (although I'm not military). If not, then somewhere near Moanalua to Salt Lake. If you are working near Wahiawa, I would choose anywhere from Aiea to (newer) Mililani.
Good Luck!

living in military housing is the way to go i live in economy, and the electricity bill is getting higher and higher. you can check navy housing too. is private now so any military branch can live there. houses is housing have central a/c and garage for the z

thanks for the responses...I really don't like living near the military personnel unless I have to...still searching so I'm gonna keep asking these noob questions....thanks...
I have lived in Ewa, and now live in Aiea. The trip to Hickam is about 5 min from here. I am going to be blunt Ewa is a CRAPPY idea for Hickam!! Mililani is nice and you would be going against the normal heavy flow of traffic during rush hour. I like Aiea... It is close to so many things, it makes it very convienient! Good Luck!!
^^^I don't see why going towards Wahiawa on H2 shouldn't be smooth in the morning. The trouble is if you are coming from the west (Kapolei, Makaha, Waianae, Ewa), you have to get to H2 before it'll smooth out for you. It might be faster taking the road past Kunia up towards Schofield (is that the 750 'cause down here we don't know the road numbers besides H1/H2/H3).

^^^ They are two roads coming from the west...Kunia road(750), and the one that goes through the Schofield Barracks...
I wanted to know about the one that goes through the Schofield barracks someone said it's a oneway.....True/False
So this Makaha place when the term Ghetto is used what is actual Ghetto about it...
I rather live in the Ghetto than live in a Military infested housing community...
thanks again

The thing about living on the economy is getting a place with utilities included. The rent is usualy a little higher but more than makes up for it when I hear of friends paying upwards of $300 for electricity and $100 for water. Pearl one has all utilities and its in a convienient area if you work on hickam. Its far enough away that you arent overwhelmed by military families. The thing is here on Oahu, you just cant get away from that unless you want to live in the REAL ghetto area's. Evem though the Pearl condo's have alot of military its not as in your face or overwhelming as say on base or Forrest Hill (open Govnt housing).
If you are looking for a full house with a garage you are definately limmited on your options. The best bet is to suck it up and live in Forrest Hill. All utilities and garage for the car and stuff. The housing is a fair size too for your BAH. On the economy your looking at $2500 or more for rent in stand alone house plus utilities. In the end its $3000 for a house garage and utilities or Straight BAH for the same.
the thing about living in Makaha and places like that is that its not like there aren't nice houses its that you are VERY rural. like maybe 1 grocery store without a 20-30 minute drive and probably 1 fast food resturaunt within half an hour if you're lucky. That fast food place will probably close at like 7 pm and there aren't going to be any other resturaunts you can easily drive to. + most of the trip is a 1 lane in each direction road with no lights (not no traffic lights, i mean no lights to see where you're going).
That's what we mean by ghetto. It's totally possible to not live in TOWN and still live in a comfortable community, but you're choosing the equivilant of living in a VERY backwater little town.

the road that goes through schofield is NOT one way, it flows both ways but its not always open, most of the time it is but not always. sometimes i think that the weather dictates that. and kunia can be busy at times as well cause everyone thinks the same thing "oh this will be faster" and the speed limit is only 30 mph
Makaha isn't ghetto, it's just out at the end of the road on that side of the island. If you want the longest drive possible into work, then Makaha is one of two places (the other being the north shore) that you want to live. You will take your place in line behind all the traffic coming from Waianae, Kapolei, Makakilo, Ewa, Mililani, Waipahu, etc..........like I said, it's the end of the road.........repeat in reverse for going home.
