more hawaii questions
couple of hawaii questions. Sorry this is probably a repost but..
1. Does hawaii require 1 or 2 license plates?
2. I heard you can keep out of state plates for a fee. If you keep the out of state plates, can you keep your windows smoked, or do you still have to meet hawaii regulations?
3. Are there any pros/cons for getting hawaii tags, or keeping out of state tags?

1. State DOT law require both tags mounted. It depends on the cop who enforces that law.
2. You can run your out of state tags, not too sure about the fee. And as for the tinted windows, you'd still have to respect DOT laws limiting tint at 35%. you could stretch it if you want to, just be ready to pay for the consequences if a cop decides to tag you because your tint is too dark. trust me...it does happen.
3. I dont know any advantages of one over the other. I've seen cars in our parking structure with California plates one day, then Hawaii plates the next...so eventually, I think you'll have to register your car to have Hawaii Plates.

I've heard that you can keep out of state plates as "vanity plates" for a fee. But you must get your car safety checked and registered (they want your $$). I know people who have gotten fined for not registering their cars. (Yes, it all depends on if the police wants to pull you over or not.)
We have recon laws. You can go to this site: http://www.state.hi.us/dot/highways/...s/ch134ind.htm to check if you need to get a recon inspection before your safety check is done.
Also, make sure you have your "certificate of ownership" when you go to register your car.
I hope this helps!
