well, we'll be doing the typical tourist things. ride around hana (should I put a maui built sticker on the rental car?), snorkel at molokini, etc. can you recommend any good places to eat, night life, or hike?

well i actually just posted on forumshawaii about this but i'll say it again anyways. i guess it would all depend on where u going be staying. my guess would be West side (Lahaina, Ka'anapali, Kapalua) front street is the way to go. theres bars and clubs from start to finish on that street and like i said on forumshawaii Spats or Paradise Bluz is the way to go. if ur staying on south side (Wailea) i think theres a small block where get like 4 pretty good bars although ive never been to any of em and then theres good old Hapas night club a.k.a. lets watch a fight place and then get Tsunamis where your might even run into a celebrity. cousin works at the hotel where its at and has seen Beyonce, Tyra Banks and stuff. Maui is pretty lame though with all the bars/clubs closing at 1 so good luck with that.

for the tourist thing i'd recomend doint every thing except riding a bike down Haleakala. if theres one thing that every Maui driver hates its this. and maybe taguma, but thats another story. snorkel is fun, parasailing, hiking especially in hana, and i would like to thing that our beaches are a million times nicer than O'ahus seeing as that we don't have doo doo water. so even just a cruz to the beaches should be fun. if your coming in later summer then big beach is the place to be. a billion chicks, good shorebreaking surf, and of course a BIG BEACH fo play foot ball frisby or what evas.

after all we were'nt voted best island in the world however much times in a row for nothing.

oh and no Maui Built stickers please. only braddah and tiddah mokes rage those

eat at a vietnamese restaurant, its under the bridge in wailuku. kind of by a school, i forget the name. the food there is excellent, haven;'t found anywhere on oahu i like better.
MauiBuilt sticker, maybe. go get an afro wig and a smoke machine for your car, that way you dont get robbed.
big/little beach, just watch where you park if you go there. lots of crooks.
snorkel-molokini
shop-fukcin place is crappy, but LV there is never crowded. why the fu.ck do i know that.
beaches are good, do you surf? i used to frequent a spot on the way to lahaina. maybe jaws?
Iao, Haleakala, (i think the bakery closed down, vineyard.
not much, guess thats why when COPS went there, all they found was batoo

theres a couple of spots but i haven't gone in forever so i forget where there at exactly. they shouldn't be hard to find, just follow the river up or down. oh and the river isn't that hard to find either. but if its raining, even just a little drizzle, its a recipe for death up there. they flow pretty easily.

unless iao is a must for you to go to, i would suggest going to twin falls. i think it would be a million times funner cuz on the first pond (which is actually the second) theres a 10 20 and 40 footer jumps and then theres the good old swinging rope. the other pond has a pretty big water fall with a 50 foot jump. just watch out for da loko boyz la dat. but there actually pretty minors now that its getting more popular with the tourist and stuff

You need to go watch the sunset/sunrise at Haleakala. Hike into the crater if you're into that sort of thing. Full moon drives up there are cool too. Avoid the downhill biking thing: the number of death/paralysis cases coming out of that is staggering. Any other touristy type activites you want to do are fine as well. If you have a rental car, make sure you don't leave any valuables in it and have someone watching your stuff on the beach. Tweakers like to cockroach stuff at the beach. Be careful if you go to Hana. Local boys out there like to start stuff with anyone who's not from Hana, even if they look local.

dk knows what he's talking about when it comes to Maui nightlife. Kihei and Lahaina are the only places to go unless you want to hit up the Korean bars in Wailuku (Starlight Lounge FTW!) Hapas/Tsunami in Kihei, Paradise Bluz/Spats in Lahaina. Tsunami is empty on Saturdays, I think. Hapas can be rough, so watch yourself if you go. I've seen too many felony assault/CPD/drug cases come out of that place.

The Vietnamese place is called Saigon Cafe, and the food is good. Try the green papaya salad. For massive local-style food, try Da Kitchen in Kahului by the airport. Manana Garage in Kahului has pretty good South American-based food, though their menu is migrating a little bit to include other regions. Kaanapali side and Kihei/Wailea have good restaurants too. Sansei is a good Japanese restaurant in Kihei, and Cafe O'Lei is a good local-food-based upscale restaurant (like Sam Choys but a little more upscale and a little less local). Lahaina/Kaanapali has good restaurants in the hotels and on Front Street, but I don't go out there that often so I can't name any off the top of my head. Upcountry there's Casanovas (Italian) or Pollis (Mexican). For more restaurants check out the Ono Kine Grinds section at www.mauitime.com.

Shopping-wise, Kaahumanu Shopping Center in Kahului is the best mall on the island. If you want high-class stuff, try the Shops at Wailea. Lahaina has some high-class stuff too, but I don't go out there enough to know where it is. Maybe Kahana?

far from it. it actually on the way out to Hana. its about a 20 minute drive past Pa'ia but i forget which mile marker it is exactly. i know its after the second bridge. since you going hana could be a good stop.

you should listen to Dream about the Hana lokos. they're called the East Side Hui. although i've never actually experienced this myself, they pretty much don't care who the f***k you are. i heard that the county actually had some FBI guys help out with the problem

Maui is the greatest place on earth. Lahaina is beautiful. Scored some dope from a cook at Benehanas that nearly killed me.

thanks for all the info everyone! I guess I'll be sure to bring my ASP batons along for the ride (can't be too careful), although I'd imagine those mokes must have to pick and choose their targets with all the tourists that drive through hana daily so I can't imagine they'd choose my group. but I do appreciate the warning and I'll let you know if I have any "encounters".

are there any "must see" sights/things to do that aren't in/on the way to hana?

Haleakala, Iao Valley, maybe the vineyard or lavendar farm up in Kula if you're into that, Jaws, beaches in Kihei/Makena, snorkeling at Molokini. Check out a tourbook for more ideas.

Yeah, definately go to haleakala for the sunrise. It gets pretty cold though in the morning, so dont go with t-shirt and shorts. If the north shore surf is big, jaws and hookipa is highly recommended (just for look, not surf). Twin Falls and Iao Valley is good to stop by and have a hike and swim. Not much to do in Hana but its a nice scenic drive...and so is the drive around the "head" of the island, Waihee to Lahaina. Theres lots of golf, but it gets pretty expensive. There's also the Maui Ocean Center in Ma'alaea if you want to check out an aquarium. If you want good, kinda expensive food, there's Mama's Fish House and Sansei's. If you wanna go out to clubs, there is Spats on saturday nights at the Hyatt in Kaanapali, there's Paradice Bluzs that goes off on saturdays and sometimes fridays, check out waveriders (now called Bikini's Cantina) if local bands are playing (if not, then its ****ty), Hapas in Kihei on Saturday nights, and there is Tsunamis in Wailea (but I think they might be closing down). There's also bars like the Ale House in Kahului, Moose Mcgillicuddys in Kihei and Lahaina, Lulu's and a bunch of other bars in Kihei. There's kareoke thursday, friday, and saturday nights at Sanseis and after 10pm, the food is 50% off. Thats always a good deal. There is Shopping at Kaahumanu and Maui Marketplace in Kahului, Front Street in Lahaina, and higher class shops at the Shops of Wailea and Whalers Village. Beaches to cruise on would be Big Beach in Makena, Polo Beach in front of the Four Season's Hotel, Wailea Beach at the Wailea Hotel, Keawekapu at the end of kihei, any beach fronting Kaanapali, and Flemmings Beach in Kapalua. If you want to learn how to surf, go to the Lahaina Harbor. Hope this helps...have fun in maui.

we'll be there for 3 days (fri-sun). idunno bout making the sunrise, its hard enough waking up my friends by 9am. plus we'll have some girls with us and they might take a while to get just about anywhere. I've heard the aquarium is better than oahu's, but isn't like $20pp?

If you can't make the sunrise, go see the sunset (unless it's cloudy).

It sucked the last time I went there. Crappy DJ, overpriced drinks, empty. Nice ambience, though.
