Default Runway what?

You can say I am have been busy biding my time with various projects concerning the car and one lone computer since I've been gone. But one is wraping up now and I will let her peek a lil' out of the bag.

Been in contact with a rep from the Kalaeloa Airport and they gave me lead to talk to for renting a runway. Mr. Ben Schlapak, Oahu District Manager State of Hawaii Department of Transportation Airports Division.

In order to get an answer I need to type up a letter requesting usage of the runway and an hourly estimate for the rental. He will get back with me with all the safety, liability, and rules concerning the usage of the runway.

So this is a serious fealer, who would be interested in this rental and what time frame are we looking at? I will have to pay in advance out of pocket so the more people we can get the cheaper it will be per person. I personaly am willing to pay $100 + to do a couple of 130 +MPH Runs down a 3000 ft runway in my TT Z. Just a word of advice this may end up being an all or none deal and you would need to pay in advance to secure the runway.

Z's and G's both welcome, and may be a few others. If there are others there has to be a HP minimum. 140whp for bikes and 500+ for cars. Gotta keep it interesting and not have an @$$ load of honda **** boxes buzzing arround.

I am glad that you found someone that can possibly grant you access.

Dominic had a 350Z and rented a small portion of the runway before for a photo shoot and things. Others wanted to do the same...but for the love of God I could not get anyone to grant us that same permissions. Well...at least from the way that he told me how he got it.

I believe that we dropped close to about $100 per car there as well. Though we were limited to something like 20 vehicles.

Goodluck.

No sweat, I wouldnt have a problem with others comming. The big thing though since I was setting this up for Z's I dont want to turn away a Z. But any extra you are more than willing to take. Since we realy sont have a large intrest as of right now I woulnt see why we cant split the openings 50/50 if not the total balance. We have a hard enough time getting 10 guys getting to a free cruise. BTW how many are in your Supra club?

I realy have no issues in setting up a package for some one as well. That way I can just give you a packet of info telling you what to do, cost, form letters, and such. If you read that post I did a while back about the Project Voodoo Racing thing. Kinda like race event coordinator/ promoter type deal. Did it in a few places here and there and I'm not affraid of the foot work. The best deal about the one point to go to deal is there is a familiar contact person to person and that some times speeds things up. Then we will have a good deal of info and a packet price that is good for X amout of cars.

It will take a few events going smoothly but the potential is there.
I'm more than willing to front my own cash to see this thing get off the ground as long as I'm not out of pocket more than my share of track time. I just want to see the potential of these cars that are comming out now since the lack of track time. And well mine too. When the time comes for me to move on I'll pass the torch on to some one.

Im realy wanting to see how this first run goes and from there we can make the plans we need to. Im not sure about the new security precautions by the FAA and how they will effect this but it will all come out in the wash. I might have to plan a few meetings to get the full understanding of whats going on and how it effects events. In the end I'll be more than willing to set up events for others too.

I'm even getting an real good camera for this and a couple of other ventures. A Cannon EOS 30D and several lenses, filters, tripods, and a few other goodies. That way I can get pictures of the events and have photo CD's to give out (maybe for a buck to cover CD price and gas). The camera is my deal so there is no hidden set up in the package for equipment as there is no out of pocket I'm happy with that for now.

So what do you think?

EDIT: So far I'm planned to be arround till the first of the year so it will give me plenty of time to set this up.

I understand about getting more of the Z's out. But if you do have room, let me know.. When I coordinate something for the Supra's, I usually get 10-12 to show. I have a contact list of 22 so far. I am more then sure that for something like this, they'd be willing to more then help with the cost. How often is it that you get to go really really fast now days that the track is closed?

So what do you think?
I am down for this, and I know the supra club would be excited with the opportunity to do some high speed runs on a airport runway.

You can count me out then. I dont meet those HP req. My bike makes about 115-120 and the car makes about 250. Even if I installed the turbo by then...I wouldnt be making anywhere near 500. Besides, I dont think I'd be doing top speed passes, I'd be sliding it.

blegh.

I am peicing the letter together and it should be printed out and sent monday at the latest. Sorry about the time; there is just some crap I cant control .

Dear Mr. Schlapak,

I was given your contact information from a Mr. Gregg Torigoe (Visitor Information Specialist IV, State of Hawaii Department of Transportation (808) 836-6444), in regards to runway or taxi way rental.

I am a member of a Nissan 350Z car club that is interested in renting one runway/ taxi way for a couple of hours, and also representing a Toyota Supra car club that would like to rent time as well. I am inquiring about an hourly rate and what protocols we would have to accomplish to get this prospective rental moving forward. We were informed by another individual that in the past there was a similar rental that occurred at Kalaeloa Airport in 2005. I would like to know the process, paper work, and restrictions that need to be accomplished, and heeded, for a similar rental.

Ever since the closure of Hawaii Race Way, many individuals have been getting anxious and wanting to drive on the streets with an excessive speed. This, I feel is extremely unsafe and would like a viable alternative. If this rental is feasible there may be a regular quarterly or semi-annual occurrence of rentals to help keep responsible drivers out of trouble with local law enforcement.

All individuals will be insured against any damages that may occur and are willing to sign a liability waiver for access to the runway. Well will, (my self, or another individual from these organizations); will inform a member of the appropriate office of our rental intentions a minimum of 1 month prior to our rental date, and have payment of the rental the week prior. If for any reason there is a cancellation we will notify the fore mentioned office of our intentions.

I hope this option for rental is feasible, and we can work out a rental plan. You can contact me at projectvoodooracing@yahoo.com for the quickest response, or call me directly at (808) 489-----

Sincerely,

Michael Holland
