Painting Rims
Hey, I was thinking of painting my stock rims black but was wondering if this was easy enough to do myself, or if i should take it to a bodyshop. I know you can also powerdercoat rims but can't do that at home. If anyone could give me any info on the matter if they've painted their own or if they could recommend a shop to do it for a reasonable price it would be appreciated. thx.
If you are going to diy with just spray cans, this is what i did long time ago on my axis touring cups....
2 Cans of Wheel Paint (Checkers)
2 Cans of Clear (Checkers)
Index Cards
400 & 600 Grit Sandpaper
1 whole weekend
1. Washed the dirt off the rims
2. Wetsanded with 400 grit and then 600 grit
3. Once dried, placed index card around the outside perimeter of the rim to prevent paint from getting on the tire.
4. Sprayed 2 coats over each tire. You can technically buy 4 cans and use 1 can per rim.
5. Once dried 24 hrs, I sprayed the clear with 2 coats each. Or you could use 4 cans.
6. If you want, you can wetsand with 1200-1600 grit after.

I recommend doing it @ a Body Shop
I've had 2 sets of '06 OEM Wheels
The first ones I painted myself, they came out allright....
The second set I had a body shop paint them. They came out AWESOME. I get lots of compliments on them. (but i'm trying to sell them now, or trade for OEM...hey...? wanna trade?)
