Default The Build

Well after a interesting ordeal with my z, its finally getting built. In October I went back to Hawaii and drove my car around when right when i was about to let my girlfriend drive it it felt like dying? . So my friend traced the problem to the fuel system and we discovered my tank was bone dry. My gas gauge was broken . So filled up the tank with gas and it started. Then later in the night going about 20mph cruising there was a popping noise and the motor seized. OBDII scanner reported misfires and knock. So we thought the motor was dead. I started to order parts from Forged Performance. Later in the week he found that the short block was salvageable and that the cylinders where just washed out because one of the injectors got stuck open. But since I already began to order the parts I just decided to go ahead with the build. Heres whats going into the car engine wise..

CP 8.5:1 Pistons
Eagle H Beam Rods
ARP L19 Headstuds
HKS Headgasket
Walbro 255 Fuel Pump
Greddy Twin Turbo(Already on Car)
Greddy Emanage Ultimate(Already on Car)
AAM Basic Fuel Return(Already on Car)

The plans as of now is to stick with the 440cc injectors until later in the year and then upgrade the fuel system and engine management and shoot for some big power with water/meth. Im staying open deck as i want to ship up the car to the mainland and do time attack events with the car.

So now for some pictures..

Progress Made today. Started taking apart the motor. Waiting on HG and new injector from Forged Performance. Hoping itll make it out to Hawaii by Wednesday.

Finally got the Headgasket and new injector from forged performance. Head is now off of the block. Also just found out today that my pistons are bigger with a .02 overbore. So its off to the machine shop for cleaning, honing, and balancing everything. Heres a nice little picture update. Should get the block back in a week or so. Hopefully the car will be running end of next week. In the last picture you can really see the results of washing out the cylinder. Luckily though no major damage to the cylinder walls. Nothing the honing process wont take care of.

Motor is down to the bare block. Sent to the machine shop for cleaning honing the cylinder walls polishing the crank and balancing everything. Should get it back in a week and then the car should be running a week after that.

After finally getting parts back from the machine shop it was time to put everything together. Short block was completed. Hopefully well be able to get the car up and running by the end of the week.

Heads are on and timming chain is done. Just need to torque down a few things to spec, put on timming cover, upper oil pan, lower oil pan, valve cover, and the long block is done and going on the frame. ill post pics tomorrow.

After a week of not really being able to work because kamu was moving we got back at it. Today started at 9am and after about 10 hrs of working the long block is complete with all accessories attached and the turbos are back on. Since everything was off we got bored and went to checkers for some high temp paint. The scheme follows the Oahu Automotive 2 tone white and black. I have to say it came out sexy. It probably is gonna look weird on an orange z but i plan to paint the car white later any way. Tomorrow the motor is going back on the frame and its pretty much downhill from there. now for some pics!

Kamu worked alone today. He only got a half day in because he woke up late >.<. Anyhow motor is on the frame and im getting pretty excited to hear the first crank. Kamu, Nick, and Myself should all be at the next meet. All with a car of our own =)

Motor is finally on the car. We just needed to put the injectors on, wire it up, and put on the plennum and we would have been able to start it. but of course as everything ha been going with this project i got the wrong part. the injector forged performance sent me was the wrong one. so that was pretty devastating. other that. the motor is back on the car. and the tires touche the ground for the first time in 3 months.

Just got off the phone with sharif. He said their going to overnight a new injector out here at no charge. so well see how that goes. but great customer service from them.

I had that kit for awhile. I picked up kamu's old one. I wasn't really building the car for quarter mile. As building it for road course. I prefer turns. Long time no see. Hopefully I'll see you next time.

damm dude, that sucks! sending wrong parts from the mainland happends way to often. Why can't they just get that sh*t right the first time?? The company makes millions, but the guy sending the part makes $7.00/hr!! go figure!!!

Well, hope you can get that right part quick. They should compensate you somehow by screwing up. ask for a discount, and for them to reimburse you for the shipping costs. shoots... good luck
