Honestly a good handful of Hawaii Z drivers are members here at My350Z. To try and go out and start your own club will be tough as you'll probably end up right back where you started hanging with a bunch of folks that are already on the forums. I'm guessing you're "leaving" as folks aren't showing much enthusiasm for the scene and not showing up for cruises?
Honestly, I think once a week is too much and I think that's what kills your folk's turnouts. It gets old after a while. I usually set up one G cruise a month. I've set up 4 so far since August (Aug, Sept, Oct and Nov) but I skipped December as our November cruise only saw about 12-15 cars versus the 25-30 that showed up in October plus I knew folks would be busy during the holidays. You gotta space 'em out and make people want to bring their cars out as opposed to having them feel like it's routine. It also helps to mix it up every now and then. Change the route, throw in a night cruise here, a club night there, a bar hopping get together one night, a BBQ at someone's house etc... Lots of picture and video taking also helps as well. I may try to do a G cruise DVD for '08.
The main thing is, keep it interesting, change it up and make people want to come out instead of kicking them and making them feel obligated to show for cruises. Also be accommodating of other's schedules. Heck I'd probably be down to cruise twice, maybe three times a month but I know others have to work and sometimes when others wanna cruise I'm tired as fawk. Believe me dude, you have a lot of enthusiastic Z drivers here on the forums. Stick with 'em and give it some time and your folks club will continue to grow.

Matt's got a good point. The development of a good base of friends in the same hobby cannot happen while only doing one thing.
Also, keep in mind, our cars are rather pricey, when compared to the average 1990 240sx or 90's civic hatch. Not only do some of us have to work more to have such luxuries like this (luxury for me anyway - my last car's interior was non existant) but we may be involved in other things as well, to improve our situation so that we can continue to enjoy such cars, and keep our personal lives intact. Myself, I've got work, running a section in the Army reserve, school, photography training with Keiji studio, guitar lessons, and my girlfriend. It can be pretty stressful. Ultimately, when I can actually come out, I hope it'll be something thats fun, enjoyable, and something I'm not pressured into.
On another note:
I'll be honest with you, I always enjoy meeting new 350z owners. But I've been in this culture for a long time, participating in it through my personal, and professional life. The ridiculous drama I've seen within Hawaii clubs has made me very wary of hanging out with other car guys that I haven't built a long term friendship with.
I'm not saying I'm absolutely opposed to it, but I often avoid large cruises and collaborative get togethers because of this. In all honesty, I find it more appealing to have a small group of enthusiasts, instead of trying to get every Z on the island to come out. It's easier to build friendships, confer with each other, drive, and not be targeted. My most fun experiences driving back in the day were always with a group of 5 cars or less. Thats not to say that having a large group of Z's can't be fun or a good thing, but a small group to start with, and strengthen, can be a very good base for future ops.
