Need some recommendations on where to take my car. Looking to get front lip repaired (cracked fiberglass), and get rest of my kit painted and installed. Might also want to get whole car repainted, plus filling in holes like on the hatch and bumper.
Thanks in advance

I took mine to Kamu's shop Oahu Automotive Specialists. I'm really happy with the way everything turned out. Kamu and everyone else at the shop is super nice and they stand by their work. The only reason I don't have pictures of the car and their work up yet is that I'm waiting for my girlfriend to have time to snap some good ones (she's a professional photographer).

Where is his shop located? There are tons of body shop around my work area (near Queen and Kapiolani) but no idea who is good.
I took my car RPMS in Kailua, great work, very pricey. I was friends with Mike at GX Auto, but sometimes his work comes out nice, sometimes sloppy.

i would recommend gx auto if your trying to repair fiberglass and paint. he has a lot of experience in fiberglass and carbon fiber, not too many shops have a lot of experience with that. as far as sloppy work? ![dunno](https://my350z.com/forum/images/smilies/dunno.gif)

GX AUTO. Bottom line. No need to look anywhere else. Mike and his crew are very meticulous with their work and the finished product they put out. Mike is also very personable/trustworthy and makes honest recommendations based on his experience, if something can be done a better way he will let you know. You don't get that kind of customer service just anywhere. They are currently working on my second Z33 build/project, and believe me, I wouldn't trust my baby with just anyone... The possibilities are endless with these guys.

That depends on a lot of factors like the color, whether you want a simple respray or want parts/glass removed to be resprayed, if you want the door/trunk jams and engine bay painted, quality you're looking for, if there is other body work that needs to be done, etc. Kind of hard to guesstimate. It can range from $500 for a cheap, crappy single stage paint job to $6,000+ for a quality job.

i went to JL autobody work down by sand island. had the vertex lip kit installed and painted for $1700. friend got his vertex bumper kit installed and painted for $2500 or $2700 somewhere around there. i was really satisfied with their work. wouldnt really recommend tech1 customs on kalihi street. had a greddy kit installed on my ppw z and the paint came out dull with some finger prints and black smudges. hope this helps

Also, do I need to set an appointment with Kamu's shop or GX Auto to get an estimate, or can I just go down there?

i go Kamu's shop, and ask him for an estimate. they paint my kit and came out nice. one of my friends got his done at tech1 and the paint start to come off like 3 weeks later, + finger prints. GX auto is good, lil pricey, but good.

Bro, you remind me of myself around 3+ years ago when I was diligently searching for reputable places to take my car for body/tuning/suspension work and I no joke, must have hit up every shop from the north to the south shore and everything in between. I don't blame you being picky... To some of us, credible and impeccable work is all that we expect, especially when it comes to our rides. It's nothing to take lightly, so I feel you Bro. To answer your questions, I have heard alot of mixed things about Tech1. I have quite a bit of friends that I have made here on the island (with all types of cars) that have had their work done at various places, and I have to tell you that they are a toss up. There are alot of variables that you have to take into consideration when taking a bodyshop into account, and as I could go on and on about what these things are, to me, quality and customer service are key hence why I previously mentioned GX Auto. They have personally done COUNTLESS amounts of Z's and some of the top show cars this island has seen to date. Personally, I wouldn't call, and an appointment wouldn't be necessary simply because you want to be more personable with the individual you choose to do the work, they want to know that you are serious (you taking the time to meet them in person has that effect) and most reputable shops wouldn't even waste their time with giving you a quote on the phone. They also have to know what they are working with, so it would definitely be in your best interest if you were there with your ride so that they can provide you with accurate results, and proper planning to achieve those results. Trust me Dawg, hit up Mike, I don't work with him or for him and his crew, but I tell you one thing, he does amazing work and has always went the extra mile for me, even when he didn't have to. His work speaks for itself, and I am one of MANY that can attest to that. If you want to chance your hard earned cash and the integrity of your ride, go hit up TechOne Customs or any of the various shops on the island. Let me know if you have any questions, I will be happy to help a fellow enthusiast. Take it easy...

In the future, if I ever decide to do another kit, widebody, paint job, whatever, I will look at GX Auto, Kamu's shop or Tech 1.
