Default Housing

Okay guys... so I'm finally in Hawaii and am stationed in Hickam. I have no idea what I'm doing! Where is a good place I can rent? I don't want to be stuck in traffic for 4 hours just to get to and from work everyday. I wish I could get in my Z and find a place but my car hasn't been shipped to the island yet =(

I was looking at Ewa but heard the traffic is pretty bad... anyone?

I live in Ewa, and depending on what time you leave in the morning, the traffic can be bad. But the traffic on the highway is bad at that time of morning just about everywhere. Shoot me a PM and I'll tell you more.

I found a place bout 10 minutes from base, going for about $500 a month, can pass you the landlord's info if you want. I can't take it, cuz my exception to policy letter was denied.

It's actually really nice. In Pearl City, right by the Kam shopping center.

Try checking on here:

http://hicentral.com/properties/prop...REA=Pearl+City

That's the pearl city/aiea area which is pretty close to Hickam, they have a few condos and town houses in those areas. Or you could try looking on craigslist.

It'll never take you 4 hours to get to and from work here - no matter where you live. Traffic is bad, but not that bad!

Default Update

So I got a place by the stadium and everything went smoothly. My Z will be here tomorrow and I can't wait! Thanks again everyone for the information and I found that ahrn.com helped a lot for military personnel. I contacted a lot of people from craigslist but most of them were just scams... Now my question is, what internet service should I get? I looked at other hawaii forums and they said Road Runner is the best on the island.... is that true?

Now for the hard part... Recon+Safety. I don't think they'll be too happy seeing an aftermarket steering wheel when they open the door =P

I use Oceanic Time Warner for internet. They have a thing for military it's $37 per month, no contract. No problems so far, and it's been 6 months.

The hobby shop on base does the safety inspection... not to sure what to say about recon, as I don't need it. but lemme know, I'll help as much as I can.

^Thanks man... one of my co-workers said that the one on base is the strictest places to get it. He actually use to work there part-time and pointed me to a spot close to the airport. But I'm in no hurry to do it as I have 10-15 days (I think that's what it was) before I have to actually do it. I have to take care of my housing first so I can get all my furniture and whatevers... but I'm down for some help! I'm pretty much moving in and shopping for furniture this weekend if you want to roll. I'll pm you my number in a bit...

Seen some nice Zs rolling around. Today I saw a silver (not sure which silver) w/ a whole Veilside conversion and a decked out orange one on Pearl Harbor (I think a Khaki was getting into the car). Oh and a Red one by the Hangars... Now what to do about my front license plate ;-)

Strict? idk about that. When I first got here, I went there and they set me up pretty quick. Guy came to install 3 days later.

Anyway, you've seen mine before, I'm the SS with the Hollowed Ground graffiti on my driver's side... I park near the conference center, and work at PACAF. There's usually a few other Z's in that area too.

^I'll check it out... I have to get an alignment first. I heard of some good shops like GX Auto and another one but I think those are bodyshops? Anyways, I got time to look around. Hopefully my Z isn't too messed up... I'll be bringing my camera to show the damages.

Oh yeah, I walk around the conference center almost all the time... I thought that was your Z. I've been walking around base a lot due to no car... but that will all change. I work at MDSU-1... all the way down that main road to the pier. I think it's the only Navy Diver installment on Hickam.

Yeah, GX Auto is a really good shop. They were recommended to me when I got here too, cuz my Z has some damage from shipping. Can't remember the others... JL Auto?

For the alignment, go to Island Break and Alignment, it's on Kam Hwy behind the Best Buy in Pearl City. If you need a body shop, you could try Kamu's shop, I think his sn is dizie808. His dad painted my spoiler, I'm very happy with it.

^Sweet I know where that Best Buy is... I'll go there this weekend. Depending on how bad the body damage is, I'll also hit up the two body shops of quotes/services...

Thanks again guys

Note: Oh my Z wasn't able to be available today... they said to try again tomorrow so I rented a rental for now. I can finally drive around and see what Hawaii has to offer instead of being stuck in my room...

I got my Z today thanks to jace350z for giving me a ride. We then chilled and cruised around the island to break in my island status. I totally appreciate the help and as soon as I get internet in my new apt, ill post up some pics I took.
