Default Need help in moving to Honolulu

I'm starting a new job in Honolulu, beginning early July. If anybody could help with suggestions as to where to live, I'd greatly appreciate it.

I'm looking for a single, ideally in Waikiki or somewhere fairly near downtown, although I'm open to new ideas. The max rent is about $1200, I know, that's not too much, and it has to have off-street parking.

I've been looking through the websites for the Honolulu Advertiser and Star-Bulletin and they never seem to have much.

Thanks!

you should make a trip over here for house hunting first.

I'm actually doing a Critical Care fellowship.

I'm only definitely going to be there for a year, so I don't think I'm looking for a house quite yet.

Not to mention I have no money.

The current fellow there lives in Waikiki, right by the beach for $1300 a month. That seems kind of expensive for me, but I guess that's about right.

Oh, I also don't really want to spend a valuable week of vacation looking for an apartment in Honolulu. Yes yes, I know that sounds real tough, but I'd rather go home and see my new nephew instead.

you should be able to find rooms nearby for a pretty penny... i remember about 2 years ago when i was apartment huntin & i saw units range from $650-$1200 (some are vene 2 rooms)... as long as you're not picky, you should be OK... but you have to live the LOCAL style (not a tourist way)

I'm all for cheap living, but I have a few requirements.

Obviously, it has to be near the beach, and safe, and there has to be secure off-street parking.

My mother in law goes all over Hawaii twice a year two months total (retired. time share thing.)

Want to direct some specific questions towards them, in fact they leave next month for two months there.

I consider them the experts on that area, They just called last night in fact. Good people

Andrew, tried to PM you but your mailbox is full. You'll probably need to clear out your sent messages.
