Default Any photographers out there

I just recently purchased my first decent camera and was wondering if anyone on here has any good care tips or beginner advice.

I purchased a Canon Digital Rebel XTi with the 18-55mm lens. This camera is amazing. It is just what I wanted.

Thanks in advance for tips and suggestions on anything from lenses to tripods.

Ryan

check out http://photography-on-the.net

you'll find anything you could ever want to know! biggest thing is to just go out and take lots of pictures. eventually you'll learn what settings you need to use when for the best shots.

try not to change the lens in dusty areas...even tho the XTi has a self-cleaning sensor dusts can still stick on! Oh yeah...practice makes perfect so pllleeeeaaaseee don't take pictures with AUTO mode .

^^^I also found that the auto mode tends to use a lot of flash. I like using the manual mode. I would like to learn more about the other settings though. In the manual mode I have found that the shutter speed is critical of course but I can not find a use for the 1/2000 and higher the pictures are just to dark. It might have something to do with the f/# though.

try using 1/2000 for something like fire works or something real bright.

No "might" about it. Shutter speed and f/ go hand in hand, and are equally "critical." They both control how much light hits the chip, but in different ways. It's nearly impossible to post advanced photogrpahy in a single post, so I suggest you read about what changing the shutter speed does (or can do), what the f/# means, and what changing that does, and how shutter speed and f/ need to be balanced together.
