nice pictures as usual.. it looks like you got a good copy of the Sigma 10-20mm.. When I was looking at wide lenses for my 20D I couldn't find any good copies.. i checked like 3 of them too.. So I ended up with the Canon 10-22 instead..

Sigma does have that one problem.
Seems like there some bad copies floating around.
Its hard to buy the lens when I keep spending all my dough on the car

Good to know you got good results with that lens. I kinda bit the bullet for a wide angle and got the Canon 10-22 because I had heard mixed results with the Sigma. I might take a second look at Sigma if I ever need to get new lenses. I see that you're in Hawaii, I went there recently and I couldn't put down my camera. Awesome place. My camera would not get a break if I ever moved there. Here's a couple I took with the 10-22 in Kauai.

Would have gotten the Canon also, but price was a factor. What problems did you have with the Sigma? Too soft?

Not too much, just $450 from Amazon. Took the chance, and I cannot stress how much fun an ultra wide can be.

An alternative though, is the Tokina 10-17 fisheye, though obviously, the Tokina introduces bowing distortion... but you get even more frame coverage.

What you waiting for? Get an XT, as it's below $500 and produces images just as good as the XTi... and get a lens.

Go get it from B&H... or get the Tokina 10-17 fisheye, or the Canon 10-22, or the Tamron 12-24... you can use Bill Me Later, and pay it off in 3 months without interest. The Sigma can be gotten for $450 from Amazon, so their price may help in your descision. DO IT! I was in your boat too... and I should not have waited too long. But all I need now is a 1:1 macro.

I'm glad you like the flare, but usually, they are an unwanted byproduct. But it this case, the shimmering green flare does look pretty cool.

Serious? All you need is a tripod and a good location of cars moving. Set your camera to Tv (Shutter Priority), and choose a long setting like 10-30 seconds. Since it's in Shutter Priority, the Aperture will be automatically chosen by the camera. Set your ISO lower, as this will help with noise. I like to use ISO 100.. as this is a long exposure anyway, so there is pretty much no chance for underexposure. The longer time will yield longer streaks. Just take the shots during low light though. The best time is right before the sun dispappers. Really is that simple.

 

How much was the lense? I have the same Sigma 17-70 and am looking to get a wide angle and a telephoto.

I'm starting to love this lens. You can be very creative with it can create all types of interesting angles. If you've been thinking of getting an ultra wide... GET!
