You know when you're a car freak when you call a camera's "kit" lens, the "stock" lens (referring to ctwenty's comment).

What you might try doing also for a night shot is using the flash, but setting it to 2nd curtain so it flashes at the end of the exposure. Your interior will be lit up and could make for an interesting shot. I'LL HAVE TO TRY IT.

... and some other samples of the Sigma, which is a fantastic lens:

I've never heard of that technique. How do you set up the flash to do that?

Beautiful shots. I'm no expert, but some lighting would be great for shots like the 2nd one (maybe use 1 or 2 flashes). I think the other alternatives would be to use a gradient filter on the camera or in PS, OR take two exposures, one for the sky, one for the car and merge the the pics. You're lucky to have such beautiful backrounds near by (I'm assuming).

I was inspired by this thread to go try some interior rolling shots. Just did a test run, only 10-15 pics through work complex real quick. I think I was going to slow, and by judging I was too far zoomed in and aimed too high. Got a taste of it though, so I'll def play with this later and get much better. Constructive criticism or flat out insults welcome BTW-how fast do you guys drive for those shots? I was only driving about 20mph, excuse the dirty interior I havent cleaned it in a while-or driven it for that matter.

it look's pretty good.. it's a nice shot!... but try them when you have less shadows on the car or when the sunlight is less harsh.. Try them in a tunnel or even at night.. that usually looks awesome..

I have gone anywhere from 15mph to 80mph while taking these interior moving shots... the faster and smoother the road the better of course..

this is what i use for a camera mount

and the result going through a tunnel

Polarizer and neutral density filter... I'm gonna have to retry them in good sunlight.

Thought I'd post this here since it was taken with this same lense earlier today, I somehow accidently deleted my raw file (I shoot in L+Raw) so I only have the unprocessed JPEG but it still came out okay. I'm not sure what I would do to it in post processing since I'm new to it.
Anyway here you go.

Since I already have a Nikon D80 with the 18-135mm kit lens, and a Nikon 50mm f/1.4 lens, I think this Sigma lens is almost guaranteed to be my lens. I'm so itching to spend $$$ right now.

I'm in the process of reprocessing my pics... just got the Huey monitor calibration device, and my old monitor settings were uncalibrated and what I thought were properly exposed pics, are underexposed to everyone else...

Anyways, B&H has a special on this lens... input
ps0707kmakn
in the search field, and you get $40 off. But you better hurry, deal ends on the 14th

Here's some newly processed Sigma 10-20 pics.

Sweet! You don't have a coupon for the Canon users huh? I put that in but it came up as a discount for the Nikon version only

His was a Nikon, and the other mounts were available..., but you know what? The "show attendee special" at B&H expired today, the 14th... but you can still try it to see if it works... (read below)...

In fact, if you look at the third page of this thread, post #48, here:
https://my350z.com/forum/showpost.ph...0&postcount=48 that I posted up in September, you'll see that I did post the Canon code.

Got Canon's 580EX II flash for $339 with the $20 off with the special, and the Canon $50 instant rebate... regular was $409.

Just get it from Amazon... it's almost as cheap as the B&H special.

how you like the 580? I've got the 430 and i'm not sure what I'd gain by upgrading.

Just bought the 580 today, and I already have the 430 although I barely use it, if at all, cause I'm just too lazy to put it on, and the flash makes the camera heavy... I'm going to use the 580 as a master and 430 as a slave so I can get 2 light sources during a shoot.

Here's a video from STROBIST,:http://strobist.blogspot.com/2007/06...ini-shoot.html a "flash how-to" website showing a reader using an 580 and 430 master/slave, keylight/fillight combo to take backlit shots at dusk. CHECK OUT THE VIDEO, you'll be amazed with the results.

I was planning on doing his technique with a model, and my car in the back at sunset somewhere. We'll see how things pan out.
