Default Wide format printers

Any one has any experience with wide format printers? I'm looking into one right now but not sure what to look for. The Canon PRO9500 has caught my attention, but really don't know of it would be good buy. I mostly want a wide format printer because I like to do large panoramic prints. I have a Canon MP510 right now and as far as I know I can't do any panoramic shots longer than 11". Don't want to go over $1k for a wide format printer. Any other recommendations?

Our office has a HP DesignJet Z3100 44" wide format Plotter. Have not done any panoramic prints yet. But others come out great. We got it for 5k

i'd suggest an epson 1800. great printer and for the price a very good color spectrum. i have tried the 9500, if you feel like waiting ~10min per print go for it, but the quality vs the 1800 isnt there. also, the advantage of the gloss optimizer is also a plus. or if you wana splurge for a bit more, the epson r2400 is even better.
