Avoid the gray market/E-bay as that $900 camera is pretty likely to need warranty service some time in it's life. I've bought tons of stuff from the NYC guys like Adorama, B&H Photo, and Cameta and have had zero order/payment problems and fine warranty service with any of them. Do watch out for some of these guys who will bait and switch or sell you a body striped of it's OEM battery, battery charger, rear screen cover, body cap .... and then offer to sell them to you.

Nikon's USA warranty is only for one year anyways. If you need service beyond that date, you get to pay for it. Best "non-shady" retailer price that i've seen is actually from amazon.com Nikon D80 with 18-135 kit lens is currently $1095.

Here's a link

Great advice! B&H, Adorama both have very competitive prices, good customer service and solid reputations.

BTW - If you ever get to NY, B&H's store is huge and loads of fun for anybody into photography.
