1. I know this is asked a million times, which is a good lense for under 800$? I will be shooting a lot of automotive shots (i.e. parked on on a turnout on a beautiful road) and some action shots. Decent zoom is prefered, but I would easily sacrifice zoom for great clarity. Note: This would be the first lense for the camera.
2. I know what F-stop does on the camera, but how can a 1.2f lense be much better than a 2.8f lense? I'd just like an explination from one of the pro's.
3. What kind of affect can filters have on photo's? Examples would be nice.
Thanks everyone for any information!

my best advice is so start reading up on a photography forum. i suggest, www.photography-on-the.net
it is a canon forum, but has a lot of information about photography in general. you can learn way more there than you can learn here from the few photography buffs (not saying the photog buffs on this forum don't rock, but imagine going to a photography forum for car advice).

--> i would recommend 24-105 f/4 L lens

--> it would give you the ability to "isolate" the background; hence making your image "pop". it also allowing handholding and action stopping in the darkest conditions. And i'm assuming you're talking about the beast 85L or 50L right?

--> plenty of effect. Too much to type up. Do google search on this on your own.

To tell ya a little about filters. If you plan on doing car shoots i suggest getting a circular polarizing filter it works WONDERS for those pesky reflections and glares. Helps spread the light so much more evenly.

ive never been a fan of polarizers. used them awhile ago, couldnt stand how much they flattened the colors, havent had one on any lens sense. I dont even run a UV bc I dont want to run the risk of vignette
