Step up ring, lens hood and CP filter question
Hi, I was thinking about getting a 77cm Hoya CP filter pretty soon. My current lens filter measurement is 67cm, therefore I am considering getting the 67-77cm step ring. The reason for doing so, is so that I do not have to keep on buying CP filters to accommodate for the sizes of the new lenses I will be getting in the future. I was wondering if I do get the step-up ring, will I be able to use the Lens Hood I currently have? Or do I just need to buy a new size one? Or I just plain out can't use one? Thanks!

I'd think about an 82mm.... I thought 77mm would be my largest, hence after buying 55 and 58mm Pro Digital Hoya filters, I'd just buy the largest one and use step up rings. But now there is a lens I want, that's going to need 82mm...
BTW, no you cannot use the hood if you have a step-up ring (putting a larger filter on a lens with a smaller thread diameter size). The step-up ring will be too large.
One last thing... buy the best filters available with the best coatings. Hoya's Pro Digital 1 or their new HD line are first rate. Their coatings are the same applied on Tokina's newer lenses and help prevent reflections and ghosting, which will be more apparent on night shots. I have tried the cheaper filters from Hoya that doesn't have the best coatings, and reflections/ghosting was on all my long exposure night shots. Buy right the first time.
