^uh... cmon, help him out...
OP: white balance is most likely the cause of this (where it says "indoor", "flash", "daylight", etc.). it's best to use some light as well... "white" light. a wireless flash setup would probably be your best bet: http://www.strobist.blogspot.com/ <~~~read up on it and see if you can handle it.
photography is a lot of trial and error... it's good to take tons of photos at different variables (w/ flash, w/o flash, different lights, different aperture, etc.). if you have free time, hit up a photography class... they might work on "film" cameras, but that's the BEST way to learn. Trust me.
Hope this helps...

+1 to that, although i dont have a D80 nor do i have a need for a D700
can you tell us more about the set up (lens, iso, white balance set up)? and a sample? Do you have external flash? (SB-800, SB-900 etc)? Tell use more so we will be able to help you out. D700 is an EXCELLENT camera if you know how to use it.
if someone would have treated me like this back in 05 when i got my first DSLR it prob would have discouraged me and i would have listened and bought a cheaper camera... and REGRETTED IT bc i wouldn't have the talent i have today
i bought my D70 at like the end of 04 when DSLR's weren't as common as they are today. not alot of amateur ppl had them. but i bought the D70 when it first came out. and i had no knowledge on camera gear or photography, and went from a 3.2mp shitty point n shoot to a $1400 camera over night. took me like 3 months to understand it. now look at my work. i have ppl from all over the east coast and the occasional person or two elsewhere saying they wanna book a shoot with me.
but dont be disrespectful about it. i hate when ppl do that, its like its jealousy or something. like the rich guy down the road who can afford an f430 but is used to driving mediocre cars his whole life. meanwhile his neighbor took driving classes at Bondurant yet drives a mid 90's camry, so he's gonna say the guy should start off with something slower

I guess ill never understand it because i'm not rich enough to be in this sort of situation.

sure they can do whatever they want with their money. However, when someone who just dropped almost 3k on a camera asks "why are my pictures yellow".. I begin to question how much they actually researched their purchase to make sure it was right for them. Not just that big expensive thing that should take good pictures cause its expensive.
Selling cameras for a few years makes me a bit jaded ill admit, only because I would never put something in someones hands they knew VERY little about without at least giving them means to learn.. classes... books... websites.
I'm kinda seeing I should just not react to things like this. Makes me seem like an uber 'itch' for saying what I think. ah well.
I dunno Tina, i still say its a form of jealousy or Envy. and no one is spoon feeding him lol. he asked a simple white balance question. and being that his camera cost much more then my first DSLR doesnt mean its harder to learn how to use. same basic controls with photography. Exposure, apeture, white balance, ISO etc... just the format is different and the quality. instead of getting a civic of a camera he opted for the Jaguar.
A price tag doesnt express ones learning ability. my D80 is practically the same as my D70 but the D80 cost a bit more due to it being newer and more advanced with its quality. i could have easily of learned on my D80 back then if it were available.
to the original poster, pay no attention to ppl who are gonn hate on your for affording what they can not. once you under stand the concept of photography and know how to work the shutter, apeture, iso and focus. your good to go to create nice photos. then as you learn by being hands on with the camera, youll get more familiar with what each added feature does.
tina im sorry but your outlook on this pisses me off. you act like a big shot photographer bc you work in the best buy camera department and moved to an actual camera store. it is jealousy bc hes starting out with a camera you wish you were able to start off with... **** i wish i had a camera like that to learn on rather then spend the money i did on my d70 only to wanna get something better and spend even more money rather then do it all in one shot. but im not gonna treat the guy like a tool for being able to spend the money.. if your gonna act like that, then why are you here, only in the photography section, when you dont even own a nissan to back up the attitude. you join all car forums only to troll the photography sections.
(and before anyone jumps on my case, Tina and i have known each other a while through another forum way back when)
