I've dumped so much money into cars that little things that cost $100.00 here and $300.00 there seem like nothing. It's sad really lol to be honest I thought it was going to be more expensive than what it is. But like most things in likfe it's always seems less until you actually do it.
Are there any other big differences between the xs and xsi? I plan on going the used route since I am a noob and the depreciation would have already affected it. (think noob for motorcycles) I don't need a new one since I'm just learning. Any other tips I should look for or gear I should pick up if I end up just getting a body?

if ure going the used route (which is not a bad idea) and you want canon, check out this site http://photography-on-the.net/forum/ they have a marketplace just like this forum and peeps there are very helpful. Tons of "how to" articles and suggestions on what to buy as a newb. Make sure you ask for number of pics that camera took before you buy it.
That's funny cuz I found that site a couple days ago... Deff some talented people there. I've been going through the classifieds there but to tell you the truth I'm kind of lost. Imagine erasing all kowledge of cars you have and just going into the marketplace here and trying to find out what a plenum spacer is. I'm a quick learner but some of the stuff is just named too much like other things. It's rediculous. like f155-btl when your looking for f155-bfl... I'm getting sensory overload over here lol. What are some more basic lenses assuming I went with the xti/xs/xsi

I have a 17-50 tamron f2.8 that i got for $500 but you can get not used for around 250-300. That lens is very sharp and fast. I don't know how much you know about the specs like the f. (aperture) but the smaller the number the faster the lens. Most regular grade lenses like the kit lens is a 3.5-5.6 f. which means that they are pretty slow. Also a fixed F. is better than one with range. It means that it can shoot at any zoom with f 2.8 or whatever the min number is. If you find a deal on f3.5-5.6 make sure its IS so that it can make up for its slow speed. Here is a gret lens review site:

For example an 18-270 tamron or 18-200 canon might be the same if compared to one another but they will produce much softer photos than a canon 70-200mm or 28-70mm. so you can get a zoom but keep that range as small as you can to get the sharpest photos. Instead of buying an 18-270mm for 500 i chose to buy a 17-50mm f2.8 tamron and a 70-200 f4 L canon. those cover most of my needs. The L lenses are better glass quality (=sharper photos) and they have a better weather seals. The 70-200 F4 L non-IS is about 500 used and its one of the sharpest zooms out there. Hope that clears up some of the confussion.
