You're asking on a car forum for help on photography? Anywhoo.. ISO is the speed of the film, or how much light the film (digital sensors) picks up. An increase in the ISO number means the film can pick up more light, but produces more graininess.

I thought a high ISO was low light capture (kinda like a high shutter speed), but produces grainy ness.
Im getting a canon rebel XT as a gift in a month (for no freakin reason lol!) so ive been looking this kinda stuff up for fun. Ive always likedphotography but i have an old school 35mm camera

Old school 35mm, work the same way as digital, minus the film.

Anyways ISO, is the speed at with film exposes, its really should be referred to ASA, digital dont have film, so ISO is the equal to what the sensor detects.

The higher the ISO the more sensitive to light the camera will be, higher sensitivity makes noise or in film its referred to grain

read the manual once. then read it again. then go through and re-read everything you still aren't sure about. i don't read the manual for almost anything, but i've been through my xt manual many times. and this is not to be rude, but you will learn much more from checking out a camera forum like potn (canon specific) or fred miranda. my350z is a great site for the Z and even cars in general. But it will not help you out with photography anywhere near as much as a photography forum. i do a lot of lurking at www.photography-on-the.net which is canon specific. you don't even have to register to lurk.

www.fredmiranda.com ---> Lots of good info..
http://www.photoworkshop.com/canon/ --->The link says it all...

p.s. iso is adjustable by the up arrow on the d-pad on the right side. High number for low light low number for abundant light...
