Action Figure/Figurine/Doll Portrait Thread
Not everyone has hot models to photograph, so the next best thing is using toys... this way, you can learn some basics of lighting, framing, composition when the opportunity to shoot some portraits arise... so post 'em!
Here's some tips on lighting the action figure... you can just use just about any light source to light them... like a desk lamp. Use paper shaped into a cone to control light. Use dark paper to flag/block light where you don't want. Use white paper as a reflector to lighten shadows, bring the paper close to the object, opposite of your main light, especially if your'e only using one light source. Use a flashlight if you don't have desk lamps and paint light on your figure.
Big Sega Fan here... ie: Virtua Fighter... Virtual ON... anything Sega Arcade (AM Teams). I just use ambient room light and a flashlight. The background are pictures from my computer screen. Figures are about 5 inches tall.

Harsh lighting and unable to move the figures didn't help much. Tried to save it using HDR but it came out a little blue..

Simple lighting... flashlight with a white cardboard and paper used as reflectors with the room light turned off. Hung some dark blue pants behind for the dark background. Be frugal!
