best digi cam?..try to be subjective
I Have a Cannon S400... 4mega pixel... compact flash memory... 3x opcial zoom... tiny like pack of sigs... (lil thicker) / long lithium ion battery... 449.99
basicly.. you want to look for more optical zoom.. you dont want to use digital zoom...
atleast 3.2Mega pixles..
there are no xD printers that i know of.. so if you want to do stand alone printing get one with compact flash...

Kodak are your basic point and shoot digi cam.. cant doo all that much with them... good for non techy folk...
Sony's are great all round cams easy to use just like the cannons....

I've got n Olympus C4000Z and I love it. You can find them real cheap if you can still find them at all, since they are about to get replaced. But, I jsut bought a new 4MP one for my dad for $260 from Best Buy.

Only thing about the A70 is that it hogs batteries like you wouldn't believe. Rechargables are a necessity. I've got some nice Rayovac NiMH batteries with a 1-hour charger, which total was $40. Gets me through a weekend of shooting pretty easily, with the LCD display on at all times.
sony f717. super fast processing time (take fast simeultaneous photos). excellent quality. insanely good battery life. i think best of all dig cameras
my pics are at home but here is one by another board member using f717.

I recently bought a Fuji S3000 for $399 at Best Buy.Chose that one because my wife wanted a digi-camera with more zoom (it's 6x optical). I had it for a couple weeks but was not happy with it for a number of reasons. Exchanged it for an Olympus C740, which was $50 more, but has 10x optical zoom. Very happy with this camera.
If powerful zoom is something you are looking for (for example: taking wildlife pictures when you can't get close to your subject) this camera is very nice.

I also use a Cannon Powershot S400. Fantastic camera and I really couldn't see needing anything more. I would rather have more wide angle than a high zoom. Think about it, you take more close up pics than far away ones and when you use a lot of zoom, it becomes harder to keep the camera steady. I also like the S400 because I have an underwater housing from Canon that is good to 100ft down and I got it for under $200 on Ebay. I use the camera all the time in the water.
