Photoshop and Camera question...
Okay im getting really pissed off now.
Here's my situation. I ahve my camera (Sony Cybershot 4.1) set on 1M cause I have no need to take a pic that big, but for some reason the pics always turn out 3000 x 2000 pixles big. THAT'S F-IN' HUGE.... I hate that, why can't they be a normal, clear somputer screen size? How can I get it to take this way?
Other question. How come whenever I resize something on photoshop it goobers up the pic? THings arnt clear anymore, the lines are all messed up. Do I have to have the cam on higher resolution to resize and keep them clear? Why cant the Cam just take nice sized clear pics?
Or am I just computer and camera retarded?
My vote goes for the last one, so someone please help me out a bit.

One 'MEGA'PIXEL is equal to 1000 px x 1000 px although the Aspect Ratio can be slightly different, a 1.0 MP photo will net a resolution equaling 1,000,000 px.
My Sony Digital set to 5.0 MP produces images of 2592 x 1944. The only thing that changes with exposure and fine/standard is the file size.
4.5 MP = 2592 x 1728
3.0 MP = 2048 x 1536
1.2 MP = 1280 x 960
VGA = 640 x 480
Furthermore, the camera lens and processor has MUCH more to do with clarity than the megapixel.
As modern computers go. Most people will be satisfied with an image size of 800 x 600. If you have the Adobe Photoshop program you can use the Save As Web feature to restrict file size and dimensions. e.g. Many servers ask your image be below say 250kb.
Use the HELP>Resize Image>Online>Width=800 px in Photoshop and let it do the Height for you. There is no reason that 'lines do not line up' using this method. An image at 800 x 600 would have to be saved at very low quality for someone with that resolution to be unhappy with your photo.

Anyone who has ever agonized over whether to buy a 3-megapixel or 4-megapixel digital camera might be surprised to learn that Spirit's stunningly detailed images of Mars are made with a 1-megapixel model, a palm-sized 9-ounce marvel that would be coveted in any geek's shirt pocket. NASA seems to agree...

All these consumer 'point-and-shoot' cameras are getting a bit carried away with megapixels. I would much rather have a 4.0 MP Canon ELPH than a 6.0 MP Sony. The lens and processor are just better under $500.
While you're listening the higher the megapixel the more careful you must be when taking the shot. Low light, motion, and shaky hands will produce worthless 5MP images. Buy a $30 tripod.

Pretty much what xcmpx said is pretty much right on target.
Personally though, I won't shoot less than 5MP, but that is my preference....
How are you going about resizing your pictures, that may be part of the issue?
