Default Vq30det!

so we have 2 VQ30DET motors at the shop... thats right, the smaller displacement vq35 with a turbocharger strapped to it from the factory... they used these motors some japanese sedans and in the jgtc skylines and fairlady z's (until they switched to v8's)

there a really neat motor! and the 350z 6spd trans bolts up! we have been toying with the idea of putting one in a z here..

whats your thoughts on the 30??

Oh nice! That sounds like it would be a fun motor to play with. Only thing is what tuning solution would you use? What year are the motors?

yea its def interesting! but the aftermarket seems so slim... even though nissan used them heavy in there race cars! im not sure exactly on the years, i believe the late 90's to early 2000's, and the information about the motor itself is so slim aswell!

so far this is what we know:
-9:1 compression
-same turbo as what comes on a rb25
-370 injectors?
-about 280hp factory @ 9psi?

dont quote me, but thats what i have rounded up so far... any additional info is welcome!

as for tuning im guessing you would have to use something like haltec or aem...

but we were also toying around with using the vq30 block mated to vq35 heads, and maintaining the 350z's entire wiring harness(vtc, throttle body, etc) that situation would allow you to use any plug and play ems, like uprev (which we love!)

we might be tearing one of them down soon to get up close and personal with the internals... its hard to find images of the block alone, but rumors have it the rods ARE beefier... so thats a plus

Nobody I know in the Tuner world would touch those with a 10 ft pole. Including import Intelligence for example who did my last motor swap. Matt Waldon saw my boy fussing with a TT in a NA 300ZX and just shook his head and said ew those are a pain. Granted when all was said and done the thing ran on a stock NA ecu (temp) and passed emissions lol it was tight in a 300 so not sure if it will be any different on a Z33. I'd say ur better off boosting a tired vq35 with a single turbo then wasting good time on a 30 swap.

VQ30DET, didn't think one existed. VG30DET or VG30DETT is what you probably have. No parts are interchangable, and as mentioned, i wouldnt bother.

This is straight from Wikipedia.

VQ30DET
The 3.0 L (2987 cc) VQ30DET is a turbocharged version of the VQ30DE. Bore and stroke remain the same at 93 mm and 73.3 mm respectively, and it has a compression ratio of 9.0:1. It produces 270 PS (200 kW; 270 hp) and 271 lb·ft (367 N·m). From 1998 onwards, it produces 280 PS (210 kW; 280 hp) @6000 rpm and 285 lb·ft (386 N·m) @3600 rpm.

It is fitted to the following vehicles:

1995–2004 Nissan Gloria Y33,Y34
1995–2004 Nissan Cedric Y33,Y34
1997–1999 Nissan Leopard Y33
2001–present Nissan Cima F50

thank you sir! we are sure we will see what we can do with em!

For some reason Nissan choose the vq30det over the rb/vq35/any other motor at the time for for there factory backed JGTC cars, it must be good!

I actually thought of VG30 initially. I don't think anyone here can give thoughts on a motor non existent in the US unlike popular and easy to swap motors like sr's, rb's, 2j's etc.... Heat would be one concern as would exhaust manifold's and tuning. Unless u want to go a whopping 110!

If the block has the same design as a VQ35DE, I don't see what the benefit or appeal would be to swap that smaller motor into a 350Z or G35 versus boosting the VQ35DE... other than to be different for the sake of being different.

heat?... im sure a twin turbo vq35 would concentrate alot more heat!

as for the turbo manifold, on the vq30det the manifold crosses over the rear of the motor (over bell housing area) and places the turbo on the bottom left side of the motor...

as for tuning... with the schematics... we can get it running on any standalone you throw at it!
