To keep myself busy so I dont buy things I dont need, or rip apart my house. I'm trying to talk myself into a wire tuck, this is my baby steps. I also try to keep the car driveable so It keeps me interested...
I have no real plans or goals, I have ideas and sometimes jump into them, and other times keep them on the back burner.
I've found that discount tire will price match any online distributor for tires.... at least the one here does.
I got a price match on a clearance nitto set that were pretty cheap on performancetread.com
I don't mind shopping online at all but if local business will work with me then I'll definitely give them my time.
First there was lip (and scrapes n' bumps on less than stellar roads)....
"Don't gimme no lip!"
Then no more lip. Can't see a diff and that's the point.
And on the subject of "close", "scraping", and Z tires...
...this is the clearance I have in my main garage.
All in all, the shop did a great job. Spent the time shootin' the sh*t with the owner (in pic). Good guy, good work, results that speak for themselves (but I'll say it anyways....): NO MORE scrapes, bumps, paint cracking, aggravation. Back to the good old days (before installing tahrs this morning that is.)
I won't advertise here by naming him but if you're interested, PM me for name and location in SF Bay Area.
That guy did a much better job than I did myself... Of course I don't think your fenders had any surprise bondo In their, but still mine are poked out and noticeably molested.
I'm also in the middle of changing out my shifter in my awesome automatic Z lol. I got my hands on a GTR shifter for $99. But the only way to make it function AND make it sit a little bit lower than OEM would be to modify the shaft (a lot can go wrong here). Never had any dremel experience... but I winged it aaand I actually screwed up haha - I cut way too much of the shaft and the **** sits lower than anticipated (I had to remove the plastic cover so I could still use it). Luckily, I'm not completely screwed - I just ordered a shift boot so now I can pretend it's a manual .
But jokes aside I think it's going to look extremely clean once finished. I like how the template (PRND+-) is now on the **** rather than that ugly plastic cover. Check the progress:

Looks pretty sweet. Love the carbon fiber too. Where did you get your CF interior kit?
I've been looking on-the-line but I'm hesitant to spend $400 from ebay.
Thanks! It's actually 3m 1080 wrap - it actually looks better in pics than in person haha. I'll probably be changing it to 4d CF wrap which looks pretty darn close to the real thing.
Got the oil changed today so it will be ready for the annual winter storage. Maybe it's just me, but I don't like storing the Z with old, dirty oil even if it's just 2500-3000 miles old.

Get Tokico Blue shocks if you want OEM replacement shock, they are the perfect fit, form and function.
They fit fine. I have the Hotchkis springs and sways with the Invidia exhaust. It's perfect.

If you're doing more track work and you don't want to go coilover, recommend Koni Sport dampers. Both run in the $800-1000 range but Koni offers the adjustability for tires and track configuration at slight expense of ride comfort.
Paired up with a good set of springs and alignment adjusters and you're set for under $1500 or thereabouts (plus alignment and tires of course).
EDIT: Or check out the used Nismo spring/shock set that just came up in MP. (No, not mine, just approved.)
Thanks for the tips. I'm looking into some suspension upgrades for a possible track season next year. I only have 65k miles on her, but I think some suspension mods wouldn't hurt.
Once you stick a crown royal bag or something over the plastic its going to look good as gold.
Yup the boot I ordered is leather - going for a cleaner look. Just have to chop out some of that extra plastic for more clearance then I should be good to go.
I stripped out all aftermarket electrical items.. stereo, lighting, gauges etc.. I had to stop at the front fenders, as that entails ridding myself of the tucked engine harness, poor grounds, and elusive electrical problems.. but I will save that for another day..
all my rgb factory gauges going back to red needle and white dial lighting..
after market gauges will be going back to match now as well.
Will be short lived.. as I'm looking at an AIM or Racepak digital dash soon to replace them all.
stripped the rear out .. no more airbag system... no more subwoofer boxes etc.
will be recovering the back half inc the stb w alcantara and black floor carpet., but removing the entire cubby trunk speaker bar sheet metal first.
test fit of the amp and air cup system.. the tank is featherweight, and the amp will be quick fastener , mounted to the quick release flat subwoofer box.. and it can all come out in less than a minute for a track day.
