Question about exhaust
I love the sound of my Z but I would really like to make it slightly louder. I do not have money to buy a full exhaust system at the moment. What would you recommend for me? I also do not want to do a muffler delete. I was contemplating test pipes but I wanted other ideas and recommendations.

I'm probably one of only a few guys on this forum that know when this was the trick to a loud exhaust.
OK, semi serious here.... watching the classifieds here for a second hand exhaust is the number one suggestion. As an alternative, get ahold of an N1 type muffler (round canister) or maybe a Magnaflow or similar and replace your existing dual exit muffler.
Frankly, won't do a dang thing for performance but if all you're after is noise then this oughtta do the trick for next to nothing.
And BTW, there are a ton of dual exhaust systems (HKS ripoffs) on EBay that will probably meet that budget.

A little late to the thread but if you really want cheap, I had a shop do a resonator delete for $20. It gave the car a bit more grumble and volume but nothing crazy. It was raspy when cold though.

Get the Berk HiFlow cats for a little over $300, DIY. Same VQ sound, but more of it.

Just keep looking on the classifieds and I am sure you will find something not too bad.

Agreed. This job is not rocket science. I went to Harbor Freight and got a bunch of 1/2 x 24" socket extensions. Each side has 3 bolts top, 2 on bottom. PB Blaster and a little patience.

The whole truth went like this-
Friday night put car up on stands, spray PB liberally, wait an hour. Spray liberally with Liquid Wrench. Let sit overnight.
Saturday morning spray again. I would put an emphasis on a 1/2" torque wrench or at the least a cheater bar. 1/2" u joint also. And O2 sensor tool.
I did it on a 10 yr old exhaust with 0 power tools. Overnight soak is the key, wasn't really difficult. Just use good sockets and make sure they're seated well. If a nut rounds off it's a game changer.
