Well that didn't last long ..... one of my turbos has called it quits
I came home after a weekend away ready to drive my car finally and as soon as I started it I could hear a whining noise. At first I thought it was someone using an electric saw in the distance but it turns out it was my passenger side turbo.
The car is out for the season as I do not have time to pull it apart until the winter. It sounds like the fins are riding up against the housing .....
I didn't even get to enjoy it.. I'm feeling a bit sick as I didn't expect this to happen so soon. I guess this explains why I wasn't making any power past 12lbs
On the bright side I will be running Hal's big single setup from his old black car that ran 9's I bought his setup minus the turbo since he didn't have it . So I am in the market for a big single. I could buy the gt42 but i'd really like to have the new technology so I'm leaning towards the precision 7175 gen2 that Hal suggested

The 7175 will get you in to triple digits on a DJ and E85 at around 27psi.
It would be nice to see a 6870 maxed out on this platform though...I believe that it is capable of 800whp +
What are your power goals?

I would be more than happy with 800's on a dj but .... if im already going this far i kinda want to hit those numbers on a mustang dyno which would be around 1000 on a dj i might as well go all out
i know hal hit 777 on his old dd with the gt42 so i can expect much more from the 7175
idk i like being able to spool up quick with the twin setup so now with the single i know im going to have a bit more lag the bigger i go
the motor is stock bore so id be limited there as well ... i need to have some more discussion with hal to see what power levels he thinks this motor would be comfortable at
the other thing to consider up where i am are the track regulations.... i may have to keep it at wastegate spring for a while to not get kicked off as i wont have a cage or chute or anything that they require once you reach a certain point

Over the last few months , I sold the aps kit and when we took the car apart we found that the aps turbo manifolds were cracked at the welds where they were repaired last time and the other turbo was also on its way out as it had some shaft play. These are things that could have contributed to why I couldn't make any more power past 12 lbs the last time i was on the dyno.
I now have Hal's old single setup as promised and decided to go with a pte6870 turbo.
New setup:
Tubular front radiator support
pte 6870 .96 ar
3.5 in downpipe
tial 60mm wastegate
tial bov
greddy 4in intercooler
dc sport headers (one modified)
custom radiator,fan, ac condensor
fuel system :
id 1700's
cjm twin pump hanger (255/485)
cjm fuel rails
fuellab fuel filter
aeromotive A1000 Gen 2 fuel pressure regulator
dynosty flex fuel sensor
Vibrant performance braided -6 & -8 hose
Redhorse an fittings
Check it out :

Conway brings up a solid point ... consider some hood louvers/vents ... I did vents in my hood and it did exceptionally well. Prior to vents, after running the car the plenum was too hot to touch after the vent both the upper plenum & lower plenum are ambient temp.
I'm saying this friendly, kindly, and no sarcasm - do you think your radiator is sufficient in cooling capacity? Obviously you arent going to rip everything apart but think of a plan if your system overheats.

In addition to ceramic coating the hotside piping I've wrapped it all with some black DEI titanium heat wrap too.
I appreciate the advice. Heat is definately something I have questioned. Before I had made any decision to commit to this setup Hal was well aware that I wanted this car to be a fully functional street car that I could drive everyday without worry if i please. He didn't seem to have issues when he ran this setup but I will find out soon enough lol!

I'm actually not sure. I know its rated for up to 1100 hp .Supposedly this is the quickest spooling 1000 hp turbo out there and alot of supra guys like to run them on their street setups. I'm not looking to make that much tho. This turbo should get me a comfortable 800 on e85. 1000hp would be pushing the turbo to its highest limits and at that level I'll more than likely pop the headgaskets.

The only fabrication I had to do on my end so far was weld the new flange on the downpipe to mate up the new turbo as the gt42 Hal ran before was larger in size.
I'll have some more fabrication of my own soon for the exhaust work. I love the sound of my motordyne exhaust and want to still use it but i have to ditch the y pipe since I'm single turbo now.

Hal had this on his car many years ago back when he was with injected performance. This wasnt something that i just asked them to make for me. Hal just happened to have this stored away after all these years after he sold his car and he had planned to sell it to a close friend but life events came up for that person and luckily for me it was at the time I needed a new setup so I swooped in on the opportunity to buy it.

you know what single set up that is? Looks like a momentum kit. What I mean is the piping. I'm moving on to a single set up myself. I really just don't know what way to go. I know Z1 has momentum hot side still. I was thinking of buying that and mocking the cold side myself. That or SOHO has a single set up but. boy is it expensive !!! I also not a big fan of redoing my rad support to fit a big single. ugh decisions What did you do with the coolest pipe on the drivers side of the block? Also how bout the a/c? did you have to extend a line or something?

Its different from the momentum kit
Here is the crossover pipe from one header to another and just above it is the 3.5in midpipe that connects up to the 3.5in down pipe to the turbo . Very tight squeeze into the bay. 3in piping would be a much better fit here.
Crossover pipe then goes to an s pipe that fits very tightly around the steering joint and motor mount along the side of the block. When turning the wheel i found that i had a little clearance issue on the steering joint, I couldnt make a full turn. So i just raised up the joint.
The s pipe then conects to the turbo mount underneath the sway bar
As far as ac is concerned i need to make custom lines
