IM monitors not cleared
Hello all, I'm looking to purchase a used 2005 350Z with 180k on it. To make a long story short the scanner red p0335 which is a crank sensor which is no big deal. The car has not been used alot but there are a few IM monitors that did not clear. They were for the O2 sensor cat and evap and something else. The battery still had corrosion on them as I doubt it was removed or reset this way
My question to The Forum.
will a bad crank sensor cause these IM monitors not to complete. I don't have one of those fancy scaners to read the embedded codes but on the surface if it was a cat or other sensory issues I would expect to see a code. Can anyone explain why this may happen question. I am looking to purchase this vehicle and want to price it accordingly.

Thanks for the reply . So you trying to say the only way in IM monitor will not complete is through a reset? If the battery looks like it was never touched I assumed you would have to reset it through a scanner or perhaps there is a reset button to the top of the speedometer cluster if I'm not mistaken that will give you uptime. I may be ignorant to the 350Z but know my way around the garage. I'm buying this car for my daughter and I have a 70 Firebird which I built from the ground up. Thanks again Chuck

I can't tell you how they were reset, but given the fact that they are "not ready", then then only way for them to become ready is for the car to go through a drive-cycle. I don't know the exact mileage, but it is not just a drive around the block.
If you clear the codes through a ODBII scanner, that would do it. You mentioned the crank sensor. If someone was troubleshooting that, it is likely it threw a code and someone tried to clear it. The buttons on the speedo do nothing for the ODBII codes (can't clear /reset, and certainly won't affect the state for these emissions related readiness checks).
I had a similar situation on my car, drove around for an hour with my ODBII adapter and Torque app to monitor the sensors/readiness and went to do my emissions as soon as it became ready. Hope this helps.

This is for an '05, but it should be similar across all years in case anyone else stumbles across this thread. (MIL = Malfunction Indicator Lamp or "SES light")

thanks for the replies. I'm going to look at the car again tomorrow as I told the seller to drive it around a bit and see if some of the codes will go away when I bring my scanner. It's probably nothing but I'll see if any new codes popped up in the last 2 days. I'll respond back when I have more to report period again preciate it

Thanks for the replies. I used to drive around with a scanner on my 98 Lincoln. I would wash the monitors clear until there was one left and then get my car inspected in the state of Georgia. I have passed on this car as it was a good deal if you're looking for something on the bottom end. I've been looking at 08 with 80k under 10k.
