Build 350z or GT-R
I guess everyone's decision would be unique but I'm looking to bounce this off the community... After all, it would cost tens of thousands either way and a post is quick and free.
I've got a 2004 350z touring that just turned 30 (30k miles). Modest cosmetic mods so far: Volk GT-S wheels, Stance XR coils, exhaust and misc things ect. Probably $8k into the car. I love the car, ever since Nissan released the 350z.
Alright I've got a good amount of cash for a decent build from SP over here near Chicago for this winter or early spring. The plan would be a BC stroker, PT62's, full fuel and drive train ect. The car has been paid off for some time and saving for a build since 2009.... Now I'm sitting back here thinking I don't have too much into the car yet in terms of loosing my ***. We all know you don't necessarily get back what you put in, if at all.
There's been a lot of built 350z owners ditching ship and moving on to better platforms. Now I'm not dissing the Z, I own one, but I don't want to be spin the tires in every gear when I can put it down to 4 wheels. I've also read a couple stories where people are coming back from the GTR since it's no fun driving a fast car slow. I love the clutch and gear box setup of a good RWD car but I just can't be patient enough to build my Z and wait many years to park a GTR next to it and have the best of both worlds.
I plan to drag race the hell out of the car and for the most have a hwy cruiser for the weekends.
Any input of any kind would be great. Current pic below
Thanks

I almost got a GTR but after seeing some people go from GTR to Evo X or GTR to M3 I decided against it. Maintenance costs, costly mods, and (to some) lack of fun factor is what I've found as the reason for switching out of one. I say GTR over built Z any day.

Just my opinion...will prolly not be shared by drag fans, the 350Z was not designed to be a drag car.Its a sportscar or,sports touring car.To be sure, any car can be set up for the drags.Getting a GTR for drag purposes is pretty stupid since all the systems in the car
are designed to go around corners the fastest way possible.
You may want to look at a new 600hp Mustang.

Hmm, if you have the cash for a GT-R, that is what I would buy. But then again since your into drag racing you can buy the Shelby Mustang, buy some slicks and tear up the local drag strip. The Mustang route would probably cost you way less than maintaining a GT-R.
+1 Several track buddies have been surprised at smoking GTRs in their older slower cars. Mitsu dealership had 3 GTRs when I bought my car that were traded in after being smoked.

NICE!
I really appreciate the input. Coming out of a 350z I had to get the Z drivers say. I'm not rich by any means but there's only so much a manufacturing engineer can pull down to spend on cars. Do I have enough to buy a GTR, no. Do I have enough to finance $15-20 grand on it with the sale/trade of my Z, yeah.
