this pumpkin in the yards are priced a bit high.. $750-$900. i phoned over 100 places nation wide trying to find a bargain. its like they all know that the pumpkin from the S model has more value somehow. i'd let it go probably for around $600, assuming i'll have to pick up a 3.5 for around $450-500.

Junkyards are just lame because they know this comes from a newer car. And you may already know this but fyi this is the same pumpkin that comes in a 370Z with a sport package (3.7 FD w/ VLSD). If you weren't so far away I'd buy it. I'm rocking a 3.7 FD open diff right now and I love the small final drive bump.

You sure you dont want to just sell the unit by it self with no trades, theres like four different 3.5 set ups for sale on this forum

the 4.083 is not even a push, it's a an f u get moving already punch feel. if you're on manual the 3.9 and 4.08 is great. i wouldn't do it if you're 5at. since the torque converter lock up is around 3200rpm, us 5at guys feel like the cars not going anywhere until you smash the pedal. so far i found a local pumpkin for $400, yard won't budge for lower. maybe this weekend i can hopefully find a 3.5fd at a yard for less and then sell this 3.7 outright.

lol sorry man wasn't trying to kill your sale. yeah he has a 6mt. i have had the 3.9 and 4.083 before. going back to it will be fun again. i drove my boys 08 g35 sedan last night that has the hr and 3.7 and that thing feels like it pulls so much harder than my 08z. makes me mad but i know my z is faster lol.

oh no worries man , the feel of the 3.9 and 4.08 is powerful in a 6mt. i'm on a pumpkin mission at the yards to find a 3.5 but yards price the pumpkin by the year!? and most don't even know if it has vlsd or if it's open. so the moment i open my mouth and say vlsd they tack on another $100

if you notice, our torque converter doesn't fully lock up until around 3200rpm. so you'll notice that if you hold the brake down and press on the gas, you can rev almost to 3200rpm before the tires start breaking loose and moving the car. that actually becomes a problem for shorter gears in slow daily driving. i'm running 3.7 right now and everyone that drove my car says wow.... it feels kinda sluggish when you drive it lightly compared to last time (3.3 fd). when i say lightly, driving and letting it shift under 3000rpm as it normally does. so imagine what 4.083 gears will do to 5at with 3200rpm factory stall.

however, if you gas it hard and shift AFTER 3200 rpm. it's quite the push with 3.7, with that said 4.083 gears on a 5at would feel so slow under 3200rpm but quite powerful if you are smashing the pedal constantly. but reality is none of us do that except on track day.

6mt won't ever have this problem because each gear locks in the moment the clutch is fully depressed.

further to add, back in the day when i built some muscle cars and did 4.10 gears, i used torque converters that locked up lower, more around 2400rpm, but that was so i could avoid the burn up issues of that time with high stall converters in daily driving.

How many miles are on it? Not a bad deal.. GLWS.

To anyone thinking about this.. it's definitely worth it IMO, especially if you're coming from a base model (no LSD)! I went from a 3.5 to a 3.7 and enjoy it.. it's just the right bump for a DD. It definitely helps but it's not really hugely noticeable. Hope this helps.. and I still get great gas mileage.

Wait by 3200, is that the same as stall "3200 stall"

If it is I thought the stock TC had a 2100-2400 stall?

Or do you have a high stall TC? I'm going to try it tomorrow, (the hold the brake and see when my tires break loose bc I had a problem with my old TC and then I purchased rcdashe's old TC that was built by edge racing to 3200 stall, he said, I'm a little confused bro, I believe raj since he's pretty knowledgable about our trannies)

But if I get your gears, my car will feel even more "sluggish" I was able to tell the diff in the response from before but VERY little, it does go up in Rome quicker but doesn't "PULL" untill higher rpms , but I don't know why I still To this day I haven't tried a launch wight the new TC ( which is the main reason ppl get a high stall TC)

Idk bro, please clear things up for me,If you dont want to clog up ur thread you can pm me if you want or txt me if you still have my #

Thanks,

our factory stall is not that low. you can test it easily by putting the trans into tiptronic mode and shifting into 5th at a slow cruising speed then smashing the pedal. you'll see that the rpm reaches very close to 3200 no matter what speed you are slow cruising at. 3200 is roughly the full lock up.

the aftermarket torque converters for the z are only increased at a max of 3500rpm, depends how it was special ordered. after that it triggers the transmission malfunction (limp mode). a performance 3200rpm stall does respond differently then a oem 3200rpm stall. performance oriented stalls act very loosely then when it reaches it's flash point it hits more abrupt. i would not consider aftermarket stalls for 350z... unless it's a drag car only. back in the muscle days when gas was affordable, running a high stall required a trans cooler.

but the short answer everyone wants to know:

if you're on a 5at, 3.7 gears is a punch, you will love it if you're someone that likes to push the gas pedal more than 1/4" from a stop.

if you're 6mt, i'll need someone else to chime in but i can only guess that it feels a little more feisty.

i currently just installed a 3.5 in my 5at and it's exactly perfect to what i wanted. a bump from 3.3, but leaves me happy on the freeways. the 3.7 was great but i'm just not smashing pedal enough on the daily. though, the look on 6mt faces when i pull on them anywhere from under 50mph is funny after i tell them i'm automatic, lol.

oh well, will be boosted hopefully this year if someone would sell me a complete kit for under $2500 used :P
