Angry Butler Tire Co. in ATL ruined my brand new Sterns!

do NOT do business with Butler Tire Co. at any of it's locations around ATL, GA as they utilize low-end Wal-Mart tire tech rejects and will not take responsibility when they damage your brand new wheels.

read all about it and see pics here:

The OE Lug Nuts are pretty large for those holes... Even a really thin walled socket would get really close to those walls...

Who sold you those? Wheels like that SHOULD come with their own lug nuts...

They should have noticed that it was rubbing after the FIRST bolt and said something to you that you should have gotten a smaller lug nut again...

But you should have gotten a lug nut that had a smaller adapter...

They are cheap to... starting at 3.50 a lug nut...

Good luck!

I agree they are pieces of ****. They told me my brakes needed to be serviced, when in fact the brake pads had plenty of life left. They kept my car disassembled in their garage for a week while they special-ordered my HPS pads and they were horrible at following instructions. Plus they never called me when there was a delay. They told me it would be ready on Thursday but they would call me first. I called them 1 hr. before closing and they told me they would have to keep the car another day.

i purchased the wheels online... but, the fact remains that 9 North Tire had no issue putting the wheels on, removing them to install hub rings and then mounting the wheels once more... this makes three times that all of the lugs were put on and taken off without a single mark... if Butler Tire, who's motto is "we baby your car" and who has nothing but pictures of Lambos, Porsches, and other 100K + cars sitting out front of their shop on their website can't do the same, then that shows their level of skill... but, that aside, the damage obtained was caused by them...and they do not have the customer service level to take responsibility for their actions...

all i want from this is for anyone who might think to do business with them to be educated beforehand and make an informed decision before giving them their hard-earned money...

it seems you and i are not the only ones that have had issue with this company... others have stepped forward in the forums to tell their tales of woe when dealing with Butler Tire... they (Butler Tire) have also had multiple complaints filed against them with the BBB... these complaints show as resolved, but it says a lot that people have to go to the lengths of filing with the BBB and even suing to get satisfaction... Mel Dobrin, the owner, is the worst of them all... he's treated me as if i were flotsam and has given as much attention to my complaints as i would give to a blubbering child... anything you say to him, no matter how logical, falls on deaf ears... any approach is met with rudeness and spite... i honestly do not see how a company such as this stays in business... i guess here in ATL it's a sheer numbers game... that is why i'm trying to get this out to everyone that i can...via any means necessary... people really need to know that they are taking a huge risk by doing business with Butler Tire...and if that risk goes south, they're going to be stuck fixing Butler Tire's mistakes themselves...

with any wheels and tires, you should use the appropriate hardware...

with the OE size sockets, there isnt really much choice in what kind of sockets to use...

I am not saying you are in the wrong...

but, if they are forced to use the OE sized sockets or even the thinnest walled socket for that lug nut, if it scrapes the side of the wheel there is no way around it...

They SHOULD have stopped when they noticed that it was scratching the wheels... its imposible to NOT notice that!

i agree, but the OE lugs WERE the appropriate hardware... the person who repaired the wheels (Bobby Ruff with Alloy Wheel Repair Specialists of Atlanta) even stated that there was no issue with the size of the OE lugs... the holes on my new Sterns are the same size as the OEM 19s that i had on the car... the damage was completely avoidable...and it wouldn't have taken 100$ tuner lugs (they tried to rip me off) to do so...

its hard to see from the pictures the size relation without a straight on head on pic...

but go back and tell them that they should use the appropriate hardware and not use an air gun on your wheels...

by them not using the xmaller sized or even plastic coated sockets they damaged your wheels...

doc, they won't even talk to me... i've spoken with the owner three times and each time he's been extremely rude and argumentative... and i've never approached him in that type of manner... at first they stated they'd repaint the wheels...which i said no to as they were brand new two day old wheels... then, i found Bobby Ruff who stated that repainting was just as good as new (maybe even better if the finish was cheap) and i agreed to go that route as he promised me same day turn around... (G is my daily drive and i had nothing else to get me to work) when i told Butler Tire that i would meet them half-way and allow them to be repainted, they agreed...but stated that i could only use their shop... i asked if they could guarantee same day service as i only had one vehicle to drive and they said no... i then asked if they would pay for a rental while they had my vehicle and they said no... i was left with no choice but to pay for the repair myself... when i asked them to pay the bill, they flatly refused...

i've now filed with the BBB and will be taking them to court if nothing comes of that...

take pictures,

take them to small claims...

thats the best thing to do...

Get ahold of a socket that will fit the lugs and not touch the sides, take a picture of that showing there is no excuse that they can use the appropriate hardware...

BBB wont help like small claims will...

They try to act upscale and performance oriented and serve an array of "baller" cars but there just like most other shops I encounter

i was surprised, too... i expected MUCH better from them as i'd heard nothing but good things about them... that changed when i had my problems with them and started telling my story... others came out of the wood-work like crazy... and when doing research on them, it seems they've had quite a few complaints filed against them with the BBB..and i know of one other person who actually sued them...

exactly... and what's sad is that their appearance is so deceiving... people with actual expensive equipment are fooled into going there and once they do, they encounter a lower level of service than Wal-Mart Auto would offer... my advice to anyone who considers them for service is to really research their reputation and always keep it in the back of their mind that they'll be the one paying for any damage caused by Butler Tire...

I have actually. Twice. They did a great job. Both times. 19x10" Rays wheels. My alignment was literally flawless afterwards.

well, hopefully you'll always have that level of service from them... if you don't, though, be ready for a fight to get them to make things right...

I have my own set of coated socket that I carry in the car. I state in the angry Black man tone that you will use these to take the wheels off, check for wheels and socket before I bounce. I don't really have faith in any shop honestly.
