Default Distance from Asheville to the Tail of the Dragon?

Hey guys,

I'm doing a mountain bike trip to NC in a few week's time. We're staying in Bent Creek which is near Asheville I believe.

We were going to car-pool in two cars, but a gear-head buddy who is coming down as well (in his Passat W8 ) told me that the Tail of the Dragon is not too far away.

If that's the case, then I'm seriously thinking of taking my 350Z down so that I can drive it at the 'Tail'. Hauling the MTB is no problem (attached pic), and she's a comfy/classy ride (including satellite radio) so there's a few other good reasons to bring the Zed down.

How far is Bent Creek/Asheville from the 'Tail'? Any particular route I should take to get there and how long is the actual drive?

Thanks

You should go, looks to be lots of fun. I'm headed up there the first weekend of spring break.

Another good link is www.tailofthedragon.com, I imagine it is about the same info but it never hurts to have multiple sources. Oh yeah, and just for kicks you should check out killboy.com for his pictures from up there...enjoy!

Thanks for the info guys. I'm definitely taking my 350z down.

Since I’ve already got a setup for recording my Solo2 runs, I’ll hook it up to tape my drive through the ‘Tail’.

Is there an ideal time to drive it (ie: traffic and police)?

The rack is a Delta Hunch rack. It not only carries bikes, but tires to!

During the week if possible and daylight. Always cops so just cruise it a few times not only to check for cops but to learn the road just a little. Be mindfull of bikers as they will cut corners you can't see around (yes I am guilty of doing this).

Otherwise don't miss out on one of the greatest road in the US.

Cheers,
Mike
