***Moving to Jacksonville - Apartment recommendations***
Don't know how many Jacksonville members there are, but I need your guys help!
I'll be starting a job up there in a couple weeks and need to find a place to live. I'll be working in the area around where the 202 and southside blvd are.
So I'll either be looking for an apartment around that area, or maybe something in downtown, since it's not too far and more metropolitan. I'm looking for something that is a bit up-scale compared to a college type apartment complex.
Any recommendations? Thanks guys!

I lived in JAX for 2 years, my last last was off Baymeadows Road East, one minute from 9A and the JTB. Just to let you know JAX is a way slower pace of life. Here a pic of how "big" downtown is.

I'll be working for Fidelity Investments.
Do any of you guys know what the traffic is like if I were to commute from downtown in the mornings? Is it even worth living in dt? anything really go on there during the weekends/evenings?
Or are there any other cool areas I should consider?

I'm sure about the downtown commute, but I-95 can get bad from time to time. As for stuff to do, what are you look for?? To me the car scene is a bit died there. Mostly Muscle Cars, and Dunks. The Clubs are weak, everything closes at 2AM. Not a tuned shop in town I would take my G to. The track (Jax Raceway) was closed, to build houses in it's spot. There's only 3 Major Malls, counting the one in Orange Park. It's a nice place to live, but to me it was boring, being that I'm from NYC.

I've been in jax for almost 8 months now and a lot of what you are looking for you will not find.I think your definition of upscale apartment is the same as mine--- large living areas, granite counters throughout, stainless or modern appliances, hardwood floors, berber, wood blinds, walk through attached garage, etc----all in one unit.
Well I was in same situation as you and looked for about a month. You will only find these type of features in privately owned condos for rent.Look at different condo communities by Village Walk apartments on Gate Parkway. But for the $----- you might as well rent a house. I at first luckily rented a 3500sqft 4/3/2 with huge pool for $1400---- same as what the 2/2/1 condo was renting for.
However utilities are KILLER in jax. I was spening about $1000 a month for water/elec/trash. House sold though---so I moved into an apartment after.
I lowered my expectations and settled on paradise island (newest phase) as its only 5 minutes from my work. Otherwise I recommend Thorton Park its right in the area you mentioned but living areas are small. Oh and like I mentioned forget about hardwood blinds/floors, granite counters, maple cabinets, etc. Lower your expectations - do your time here- and stay out of trouble.

07_350z_JP - you nailed what I'm looking for. It's time to upgrade from the apartments I was living in while in college. I'll check out the places you mentioned and hopefully find something I like. I've seen a really nice place online that's in downtown, but don't know if it's worth living there since I am working in southside.

hndumafia....did you get settled yet? I am going to Jax next month to train at Fidelity's for the Merchant Service Program and wanted to know if the city had anything fun to offer. First off, does the city have live entertainment. Any good food joints I should visit and any must see landmarks?
