Second Creek Raceway lives!!!
Great news for Denver-area track people. The city council of Commerce City voted last night to give Second Creek Raceway one more year of operation. The track will continue to operate from 8:00 am to 8:00 pm (dusk) until November 1, 2005.

Hopefully this means another free week between Christmas and New Year's!

Excellent news. I'd like to head out there sometime soon for a test and tune day. My work will start to wind down a notch or two in March, maybe I can take a wednesday off and hit the track.
I'm very glad to hear they extended its life one more year. The CMC really needs to get on the ball and work on CAMP if it's going to replace SCR anytime soon.. I'm disappointed that ZCCC didn't opt to help sponsor. If it did, I'd definitely be more inclined to join and throw in my contribution. Instead, I'd much rather send my money to another club that will support amateur motorsports.

But if you're looking to join a club that supports amateur motorsports, look no further than the SCCA. They come with a lot of political baggage and questionable car classification schemes, but you can't get much more motorsports-oriented than that organization.
That would also let you take part in the second year of their Time Trials series (which I'm assuming they're going to continue in '05.) Just be prepared to fall victim to curious classification rules if you go forward with the Stoptech mod...that mod alone last year got me put into Open Street Prepared which saw me competing against some of the fastest cars out there (think Turbo Supras, STIs, and even a crazy-fast Taurus...all with DOT R-compounds.) No chance of being competitive in that class, but it's still a lot of fun.

That's the second time I've heard that ZCCC is not supporting the new track. I've only been a member for a short time but I don't remember it coming for a vote of the membership. I'll have to ask why there is no support for the project. I know a lot of people talk about it and I thought it to be a no-brainer. Guess I was wrong.
Anyway I'm glad to hear that 2nd Creek will be with us for another year. I'll be there a couple more times for sure. If weather permits I'll take advantage of the Xmas freebie.

ZCCC did not bring to general vote the Sport Z Partner Club proposal either. Looks like the "officers" make the decision for all 200 members. With a lot of money in their treasury, it certainly looks like the membership love to spend their buckers on chili cookoffs and ski days in the mountains but nothing that includes their beloved Z cars. Tis a puzzlement.
