I find this on a local AWD forum I still go to from my Evo days. Thought with all the road racers here I should post it:

There's a committee meeting in Pueblo on August 10th to discuss the use of PMI and the land surrounding it. We can't lose another track! Please at LEAST send a letter expressing your desire to at least keep it from being destroyed!

I've sent my e-mails in the past praising PMI at these type of meetings. The track itself has been under scrutiny for some time and you are correct: it would be a shame to lose it. For those that haven't driven the 2.2 mile road course, let me simply say that it has the best layout of any track within a 300 mile radius of Denver. It's worth fighting for!
I got the message from the RM Div e-mail notice, and sent in a plea for keeping. If PMI closes, we're just going to have to find somebody with a long driveway and start doing laps back and forth on it. Second Creek, CDR, PPIR... I couldn't handle the complete loss of road courses from the area.

There was a short article in the Pueblo Chieftain today about the meeting on August 10 and the discussion concerning the fate of the track. In general, it is likely that some small part of the area will be kept open for motorsports. The reporter noted that there was a surprising number of people from out of town at the meeting...people from as far away as Ft. Collins. A planning committee member remarked that in his opinion, the park should be for local people in Pueblo and Pueblo West and that outsiders should not have a say in how the land is used. If you care about this track, and you don't live in Pueblo, you might want to drop a note to the committee, or to the Pueblo Chieftain and let them know that this is a matter of more than local interest!

What always gets me about all of this is that there's a TON of undeveloped land down there, while there aren't many tracks around...what's so special about the specific property that PMI sits on that would be worth closing the track for?

There's always been alternative uses for motorsports facilities, or the land they sit on. Look at the case with PPIR, ISC bought it simply to move the NASCAR Busch dates to other tracks. They couldn't care less what became of the facility itself. The city of Fountain lost their biggest taxable attraction, but were helpless to do anything about it.
One problem with PMI is that it has never been a huge moneymaker: most road racing tracks around the country charge between $250 to over a grand PER CAR for a day's rental. We've been very fortunate that PMI and LaJunta offer such reasonable (ie. dirt-cheap) rates over the years.
