Unhappy Would you....

Sell your Z? I'm at that point where I'm seriously debating. I've done tons of work to it, met many great friends because of it and the joy of driving... But it's also one of those things where there is a time when it may be necessary to draw a line in the sand... My dilemma is really that I have a 55 chevy 2dr hardtop, and a 55 chevy apache stepside (truck) that I want to build up I really want to see if I can do a EFI conversion on the 454 bb in the 55 chevy truck and boost it as well. But the Z has been a ton of fun, and a ton of money. Enough that it has prohibited me from my long standing dream of fixing up the cars that have been in the family for many many years.

I'm thinking seriously about posting a feeler thread to sell my Z. Much to my dismay as I absolutely love the car and it is ridiculously fast, but I have the dream of fixing up my 2 cars and adding a boosted flair to them so much so. I simply have too many project cars and something has to go... But before I go thru with this, what would you guys really do?

'03 Z 96k miles
Nismo cams (Installed by Tynan Nissan)
UR Pullies
Crawford V1 Plenum
CJM stage 1 fuel sys
650cc injectors
paint chips for character
Greddy TT kit w/ FMIC
11.6# WG springs
UTEC
Custom 3" TD race exhaust
(All FI accessories fabbed/installed with excellent workmanship by Tobi of TC Performance)
511hp/512tq on dynojet on 91 Octane
Firm $12,000

Am I out of my mind???

Yes....96k mile car with I don't care how much aftermarket stuff on it I would not pay $20k. You are better off parting it and selling it if you want to get rid of it. Your car is worth ~$13k-$14k and that is pricing PPV for a Touring model.

You can take your 13k-14k and go buy a stock Z, thanks! But I would consider parting it out if it would be easy enough which it is not.

No need to get defensive buddy. I'm just tryng to help you maximize your return if you decide to sell. You post in a public forum asking for opinions and I gave you mine. Parting would be the route I would go. If you don't like what people respond then maybe you should not start a thread on it.

I understand where your coming from in the first place, and I'm giving you my response. Nothing more or less. Parting it out is a hassle, I'd rather just sell it complete albeit you can usually get more back from parting but that's not what I'm after. It runs like a champ and it's motor is intact and healthy.

But for 13-14k I'd rather just drain the fluids and forget I owned it for a couple years or more and eventually get back to it after the 55's are done.

What I am after is what would you do in my situation... Be patient and wait, or not have 3 project cars? hmmmm.....

bahh nevermind, it's too much of a PITA to sell. Better of just building the motor and das boost. Need a turbo upgrade tho The 55 will have to wait a couple more years hahaha

I just learned about this dilemma in my Micro Economics class. Your Z is what we call a "Sunk Cost", This means yes you have put a lot of time and money into your Z but its in the past and you can't change it. Don't let that sway your decision. I say keep the Z but thats because i like knowing people with fast *** Z's.

P.S. How much would you be willing to selling the Greddy TT kit for?????

Yes you are wise on this move. Keep the Z. I think once you start F/I with all the supporting goods you are never going to recover half of the $$ value. Look at what Bigbri and many others ended up selling their cars for. You might as well just keep it. I say in your situation you do need to start cutting back on your project cars. If you are not hurting for $$ and have no need to sell the Z then just keep it and leave it alone if you want to work on the 55.

I'm wrong here Juztin. You have pushed that car to at least it's near limit. And all that car does is become FASTER. You really haven't (that I know of) had ANY real problems (even though I was SURE you we're going to.)
You have a sweet Z and stronger/faster than most. I think you have it pretty good. As you would guess most people here would say, "KEEP IT"!
P.S. I had a 55 Chevy Nomad when I was A teen, what A tank but again totally different look, feel class.

I could see someone buying the car for $20k with those mods. Parting out does net you the best gains though.

I would wait, the Z is a great car and a blast to own. Your going to want the modern sports car feel soon. Like the top guys i think trying to get $20 will be tough and not worth the hassle. Most people are going to call you on those miles and most less they are young first car owners will not really care for the mods even if they are well done since its hard for them to know that. We know it, but i dont think any of us are buying heh. The car is to good to get rid of. Id say, drain the fluid, stick it in a garage or storage locker, come back in a year and start having some fun, maybe a full engine build or something. Cheers!

In all actuality my real price for it would be 12K, I would be firm on that price.. I was throwing up a random number up there before. I do realize the motor is high mileage and definately understand all the things that come with modding in general. It's just a stock looking Z until you hit the gas so there's no flash to really augment a 20k price tag lol. But I'm really not looking at getting near what I put into it. I've had my fun, the car has been completely awesome but now that I've tasted boost, I really wanna FI my 55's and rebuild and tweak them even more. After all the old school muscle is my roots

Still stuck between a rock and a hard place though on the choice....

Thanks for the feedback guys, I may end up very well draining the fluids and getting my hands dirty with the chevy's for a while. But if somebody came to me wanting to buy it for 12k. I dont think I could refuse lol.

Andrew as for the FI stuff, that's kinda tough. I'd probably look at 4k firm for everything FI related, but the buyer would need to fund the removal of it all.

Juztin, Why store the Z? You may as well turn the boost down to a very conservative level and enjoy it for the next few years. I know it might be a little nerve racking to drive the Z for fear of motor problems, but if you do encounter a problem you could then store it until a later date to build the motor if you think that may be the road you will eventually go down. The good news from my perspective is your Z will probably not depreciate much more anyway so you may as well get some use and benefit out of your investment. Just my opinion. Jason

Definitely DON'T SELL. That thing is the CO monster, you have put too much time, effort and money to get it where you have it. You can't get rid of it now. At least drive it for a year with all that power before you consider selling it. Especially for $12K At that price I may just buy it and have 2 Z's. Heck that's cheaper than a TT install. If the engine blows, who cares at that price, I can buy another.

Ya, i was thinking the same thing. 12k huh? I wouldnt mind two Z's. Strip it down, make it a true blooded race car... Justin your filling my head with bad ideas so you better keep it before it gets overhauled.
