Default Suggestions: Clutch & Flywheel

Time for a new transmission again... at least my extended warranty will cover this cost for me. When they do install the transmission, I am going to have them check the clutch and flywheel for wear and will most probably have to replace or repair them both.

I would like to know, from those with much more experience, what would be viable options for me to consider and a possible list of vendors who could supply these items at a reasonable price.

Thank you in advance...

From my limited experience, I'd suggest going with the Nismo or JWT clutch and flywheel for a balanced combination of performance and durability. I like to troll the classifieds here for a deal, but would go with a place like Performance Nissan (mynismo.com) or West Covina Nissan for internet pricing on a new unit.

Just about anything is better than that stock "tank of a flywheel" I have the ACT Prolite and man it is like 12lbs lighter than stock, motor seems to be more responsive. I have the Jim Wolf clutch, and when I give her some RPM's and drop the clutch, the pedal doesn't stick halfway to the floor anymore!

Don
I'm sure you will get 500 opinions on here but the new ACT Prolite flywheel and clutch set up I have has been real good for what little I have driven it with this new F/I set up I have. I think you would like it.

As for a vendor, I havn't seen too many vendors on here beat pricing for either Tuning Factory or Forged Performance.

The ACT prolite under many offical tests has failed seriously. Everyone knows that...purchase what I have or else you are sub par........
Oh wait I have the ACT Prolite and I LOVE IT! Disregard what I said earlier!
J/K as long as you get away from that 1 piecer and get somehing lighter, you will be happier.

Although a new transmission SHOULD be replaced now, Tynann's is having difficulty in convincing my Extended Warranty company of this obvious fact. Thus, a new clutch and flywheel may NOT be in my immediate future plans since all my extra money (of which there is little of) is going to finance our wedding. Which, BTW everyone is invited to attend. 07/07/07 is only 3 months 12 days and 7 hours from now!!!

Me worried? Never!

Doesn't the transmission have a 60,000 mile warranty?

Yes, but I have 72,500 on mine already. Think the factory coverage is out of the question. Jay Kettering, Tynann's Service Manager told me he contacted my Extended Warranty Company (ECW) and even though Tynann's technicians drove and confirm the malfunctions, they want me to authorize the dealership to open it up, inspect and note the damage and give the ECW a written review. Then, if the ECW wants to, they will send out their own inspector to verify the results. WAPINTA!!! However, if they (ECW) decide not to replace, or repair, then I'm out the labor cost to disassemble/reassemble my friggin transmission.

The first changeout (done at John Elway, Arapahoe) was seemless and very uncomplicated. Has anyone else had their transmission replaced more than once, and if so what was your experience?

Thanks,

Don...

Let us know more details closer to the date and I will certainly try and make it.

So if you have an aftermarket clutch/flywheel they will still warranty your transmission? What about trans fluid? Something tells me the stealership will find anyway out they can.

My EWC wants me to spend my money to have Tynan take off, inspect the trans, and tell them whats wrong. Then, if they still don't believe it is broke, they will send over their own inspector to make an evaluation. If they authorize a repair/replacement, then the initial labor $$$ to take it off will be covered... but if not, I'm out $400. So... the transmission replacement is on hold for right now... I'm just going to live with the vibrations, grinding gears, and crappy synchos until after the wedding.

Speaking of parties... Those who want to come, please send me an email with your home address. We are sending out invitations on April 12th and don't want to make anyone mad that we forgot about them! I should see a lot of you next weekend, right?

JWT clutch was awsome. Abused the heck out of it at 500hp and torque and it didn't slip even once. The pedal feel was actually softer than stock too! I highly recommend it.
