Sunday April 20th - Dinner
Let's try this again!
Anyone interested in doing a dinner meet at Red Robin, say around 5pm? Usual one at the corner of Powers and Carefree.
Would be nice to get to meet some of the Springs guys. Let me know.

Wow, if you drove up Golden Gate last weekend you were about 5 minutes from my house - I live just a couple of miles up 93 from the entrance to the canyon. I would have invited you over to check out my race car build in-progress if I'd have known everyone was that close-by. In fact, working on the race car was what I was doing last Sunday while you guys were out enjoying the gorgeous weather!

- Cost to run a competitive car: the cost to have a Miata that’s capable of running up front (with the right driver) is out of control since it became a national class. Of course, most individual components are cheaper on the Miata than they are on the Porsche, but the Miata costs get out of hand quickly when you start getting into the world of pro-built motors, blueprinted hubs, etc.
- Amount of metal-to-metal contact: in the 4 Miata races that I ran in, I was hit once, and 2 races were stopped to clean up excessive crash damage on-track…not a very good ratio. And those were just Regionals – it’s even worse in National races. Of course, contact also happens in the 944 class, but not NEARLY to the same extent as in Spec Miata.
- Attitude of the competitors: the local 944 group is all about helping each other out and being one big social family. My experience with the local Miata group was that most of them could care less about helping new people who are coming into the class…they just see you as somebody else standing in their way of proving to the world that they’re 'The Next Great American Racer'. Of course, there are notable exceptions, but not many that I saw.
In the end, the Miata might be a little more fun to drive, and would certainly be a more reliable car, but I think the overall experience (on and off track) will be better with the 944.
I'll post up some pictures of my car once we finish the build (should just be a couple more weeks).
I'll see you guys there tonight!
Also, to add to what Gary said, the local 944 Spec group is awesome! They are very helpful, they want to get more people in their class, and will help you to do so, and overall, the group just has a great attitude. If I wasn't leaving this summer, I would start building a 944 for future racing.

You could build a car while you're out there and race with those guys, and then bring it back to Colorado after your tour out there is over and show us all how it's done!
