Default z car club of colorado track day today

No top z's are not very good rock crawlers. And neither are vipers. That is all.

Don't drink. Maybe Craig will enlighten you on his off road excursion. Luckily only one suspension component was bent.

The afternoon and running the track counter-clockwise put an end to the shunts, fortunately.

This weekend the Z Car Club of Colorado (ZCCC) had a track day at the State Highway Partol training facility in Golden. The triangular-shaped course has some good runoff areas and it sounds like Darrel went off to play in the weeds.

BTW- went out yesterday to see the progress of HPT at the SCCA Ground Breaking Celebration. That is gonna be one helluva track!

It wasn't me this time David. None of my cars are convertable. BTW the viper had broken suspension and had to be towed. The runoffs aren't that forgiving with all the rocks on the top of south table top mountain.

David, don't you love the first look you get of the track driving east on us 36? How close are they to putting pavement down around ddanny's lesson and bobsled?

It's almost 18 miles east of the intersection with I-25, so it seems a long way out! I was looking for the grain silos on the south side of the road and HPR was just over the next hill. No paving yet- the construction crews were focusing on putting in some drainage and continuing to cut and grade the layout itself. Once the soil is properly prepped and graded for the entire circuit is when the asphalt starts going down.

BTW- I heard that the small town of Byers will be getting an upgraded hotel and restaurant in the next few years. The folks who live out that way are very supportive and looking forward to some racing!

From what one of the contractors told me a couple weeks ago, they will lay down pavement on the west loop then the north loop. It looks like danny's lesson and high plains drifter is just about ready for asphault. It sounded like they wanted to get the elevations done first before going onto the flat parts of the track, paddock and entry road.

Here's a link someone posted on the solo forum from yesterdays scca party.

Oh yeah, a lot of the business owners are very anxious about the track. At least for 25-30 weekends they will be getting a lot of business directly related to the track.

Hi folks,
It's been awhile since I posted here but Darrel has already made reference to a small agricultural adventure I had at CHP track last week. To satisfy any curiosity, let me explain. While running clockwise (a new experience for me) I had a small off at the pit exit/entrance. The car ended up near the control tower high sided on a nice flat rock (no problem to drive off with the proper blocking). The problem was that both left side tires were off the bead. Once that problem was overcome I drove the car back to the pit. It was then noticed that the left rear tire/wheel was not in the proper geometrical plane. It had some reverse (positive) camber and significant toe-in. Great for left turns but somewhat counter to the concept of turning right (bent lower link).
Lets just say it took less effort to repair the car than it did to clean it, but by Tuesday everything was okay and the car was back on the road. I have a small trophy of the event hanging on my wall. A glance now and then keeps me centered.

Craig- sorry to hear of your "off". Those bent lower radius rods make terrific wall ornaments, don't they? LOL

I'm looking forward to them getting a new restaurant too. Or perhaps a good water filter would do the trick.

HPR will be great for Byers. It's not going to be overnight but improvements will come.

Paving was supposed to start today on the west and north loop and those should be done by Sunday.

HPR has ariel pics on their photo link.
