I should be able to make it Gary. I will know for sure by the time I get home tonight. I may possibly be getting the axe this afternoon anyway, I will see. But my vote is to keep it scheduled, I just wish there was more then 4 of us and like 10 or more, but oh well.

I will keep you updated. Gary, did you get anymore info on hotels or should we all just make our own reservations? What do you think?

Getting the axe this afternoon?!? That's not cool...hope it's not because of anything to do with this weekend.

I saw a few options in Cortez (about 50 miles from Durango) on Hotels.com...Quality Inn and the like for under $80 per night. If we're going to do this, it would probably be logistically easiest for us all to stay at the same hotel, but each make our own reservations. Let's wait until we hear from the other 2 guys before we make the final call on that, though.

Good enough. I will wait as well.

As far as getting axed. It might be partly to do with it, but not entirely. It just goes back to the fact that I shouldn't have left where I was to begin with. I really regret that move I made, especially since money had nothing to do with it. This guy has done nothing but lie to me from the day he started courting me to move over here. I really think it may have been a ploy to get information about some of the other players in this industry and then when he is done playing me he'll just toss me off to the side so to speak. Needless to say I am looking, but prospects right now don't look good in this industry.

I'm in even if its only me and the wife. There were some $80 / night rooms in Durango at Comfort Inn and Motel 8 on Expedia. Don't know if there are vacancies or not. It makes no difference to us if its $80 or $100 / night. Just pick the place and I can make my own reservation. One person can make the reservations and it can be transferred to a different card at check in. Cancellation is usually before 4:00 pm without a charge.

When I get home at 4:30 tonight I am making calls to about 7 different hotels all on the north end of Durango and will post if they have vacancies and their price.

Anyway right now it looks like we have for the trip:

Gary - GaryM05

zz-notop

me - kohlersc

Juztin ??

Brian - Mudd ?? (pending)

As I said I am going regardless, and it sounds like zz-notop is going as well.

If so where should we meet on Friday morning to leave? The Morrison Park and Ride just off of I-70 by 8:30-45am so we can leave by 9:00am?

And does anyone have any of those cool walkie talkies? I may see about picking some up anyone know of decent ones for a decent prices? Something that we could put one in the lead car and at least one other in one of the other cars?

Any of them are okay as long as they have the privacy option. That is 15 channels and 30 or so sub-channels. I have Audiovox and I know Motorola makes some. Walmart or Target have them in blister packs. They are fairly cheap. I will bring mine.

The park-n-ride at Morrison Road sounds fine. Make it the one on the Northwest corner.

Unfortunately I am not going to be able to make the drive..........I am very sorry.

I did get partially **** canned yesterday, which freed up lots of time for me, however spending money on hotels when I right now have no income doesn't make the Mrs. very happy. I actually still kinda work for the company and am making money, but that is day to day. The ******* I work for won't fire me or lay me off because then I can claim unemployment. So he asks if I will quit or am I going to quit, and I say NO. That then throws a wrench into his plan and now I am sitting here awaiting my fate. I am sure I will be let go by weeks end once he figures out that I'm no quitter and he has no choice.

So that explains why I can't go. I truly am very sorry for this. I hope you all have a great time and I am sure I will see everyone around real soon.

Well Hell! I am so sorry to hear about that Brian. That is utter crap.

As for info on the hotels I found availability and pricing for a couple different places in Durango. Some of them had additional discounts for AARP and other stuff but I just got the general rates.

Budget Inn
- $52 for a single
- $69 for a double
#970-247-5222

Adobe Inn
- $69.99 for a single
- $79.99 for a double
#970-247-2743

Travel Lodge
- $88 for a single
- $99 for a double
#970-247-1741

Best Western (Mountain Shadows)
- $114 for a single
- $119 for a double
#970-247-5200

Thanks for the radio suggestion I will see what I can find.

And Brian let us know what we can do either for you or to your ungrateful SOBoss

Also my work computer is currently down do to a virus and I don't have the email list on my home computer. Would someone be willing to send out a mass email again so that everyone can see this information and possibly stir up one or two more drivers?

Otherwise 9am then at the Morrison Park and ride on the North West corner. Planning on heading out taking I-70 over climax to Leadville then down to Poncha Springs. From there I guess we can decide if we would prefer to do Red Mountain pass on Friday or wait and do it and the Gunnison Canyon on the way back on Sunday.

I've made a reservation at the Budget Inn for Fri. and Sat. Got a queen size for $104 for 2 nights plus tax. The place has a outdoor pool and an indoor hot tub. Doesn't sound bad and the price is good.

See everyone Friday morning at Morrison Rd park-n-ride.

Unhappy

There must be a black cloud over our group. Sadly, I won't be able to make the drive (most likely.) My wife fell yesterday morning and broke one of her toes, of all things. As a result, she can't walk very well (even with crutches) and will need a lot of help around the house for the next week or so until she recovers. This means that I can't exactly run off for a 3-day weekend and leave her to fend for herself. The doctor said that she might recover sufficiently before the weekend to be able to hobble around the house on her own more easily, but that it's not very likely.

So if she recovers enough by the end of the week to be self-sufficient around the house while I'm gone for the weekend, then I'll be able to join the drive. If not, then I won't. I'll post here again on Thursday night so you guys don't wait for me unnecessarily on Friday morning.

This kills me, because I've been looking forward to this drive since last summer when we first came up with the idea. I'm sure there will be many more, though.

I'm sorry for backing out at the last minute, but there's not much you can do to plan for an unexpected emergency. For those that go, please have a great time and take lots of pictures!

BTW Brian, I can't believe all the garbage you're having to put up with at work. I've heard some job-related horror stories, but I think this one takes the cake! Sorry you're having to go through all that.

Gary

Brian sorry to hear about your job. I was unemployed for about five months because I hated my previous job and quit. The grass is greener, especially if your current job causes unwanted stress and "heartburn". And Gary sorry to hear about your wife's injury. My black cloud is actually my brother's. He got hit by two cars that ran a red light on Sunday (he's okay) and it most likely total his brand new 2004 Acura TL, only 1500 miles on it.

I just wanted to post that so the poeple going on the trip will not have any problems since only three bad things can happening in a group in that short of a period. Hope you guys have a good drive and trip.

As for good news, our number just went up by one as I have a friend that seems to never come by the boards but will be coming with us...and he drives a 350 so all is well.

Craig- Thanks for the photos. Spectacular scenery and I assume you all had a great time! I thought there would be at least 3 Zs on this trip- wasn't kohlersc bringing a friend?

Sorry I couldn't attend, I'm still looking forward to participating in a summer drive with the group...

I need to get the few pictures I took off my camera. But my friend fell through as well. He ended up closing on a house and couldn't leave. It was still a blast. Would have loved more to come, but we just need to plan something else soon.

Sorry I couldn't join you guys. I hope everyone had a great time. What drives did you all take, anything that you did while you were down there? I really wish I could have made it. Especially knowing now that it may have been the last opportunity for me to participate in a group drive.

I know I have made some noise in this thread about what is going on with this job I have. Being that the company I work for won't lay me of or fire me, they are trying to get me to quit by making my working conditions as miserable as possible. One of the things they have done is cut my pay by $2000/month. Consequently, I am sorta being forced to give up some of the luxuries that I own, one being the Z. In a perfect world I'd be able to keep it, but realisticaly it's not going to happen.
Until then I plan on enjoying the car, but I'm not to sure how much longer I will have it in my possesion. Sorry to be the bearer of bad news lately, just thought I'd let everyone know that I may not have the car soon.

Mudd: I’m not a layer or anything close to that, but doesn’t reducing your pay qualify as a demotion which makes you eligible for worker’s comp? Anyway, sorry to hear about your news, hope that everything works out for you and you’ll be able to keep your Z.
