Installer didn't chamber box. DID I GET RIPPED OFF?????
I got two 10 inch JL WOs custom installed in a sealed fiberglass box at Creative in Santa Fe Springs. I don't think the box is chambered. This is because at high volumes, the two subs do not move identically. It looks like it's fighting for air. However, the sound quality is great, and the bass is clear and deep.
When I asked my installer about this, he told me that the sound quality doesn't change whether it's chambered or not. It's just for looks. A number of people have told me it's bs, and I'm getting ripped off? Will I get more bass if it's chambered?
What do you guys think?

If the box is symetrical like a rectagular box and the subs are placed symetrically in the box it should not be a problem. But if the box is asymetrically shaped like being fiberglassed to a side panel or something like that then you should only do one sub because it would be very difficult to find a spot to chamber such a box that would give the two subs the exact same airspace. If they are not moving equally you will have a problem down the line. Most likely a torn spider.

I have it installed flush on the floor of the trunk. The spare was taken out, and I'm pretty sure the box is symmetric. What kinds of problems will I have down the road? So does it affect sound quality? The installer's a pretty nice guy, and he does a lot of show cars, so I'd like to think he knows what he's doing.
Its hard to say without seeing the box, but if they are not moving identically at high volumes then there is potentially a problem. Is it running off a two channel amp in stereo? If so you are better off running it bridged in mono. If it is mono, make sure they are both the same impedance. For instance you are not running one 4 ohm sub and one 8 ohm.
You are a ways from me but if you are in the neighborhood, stop by and I'll have one of my installers check it out for you.
