Steve at Powertrain emailed me all the files for the G35s and 350zs. Some of the files were from previous dyno days. Send me an email at ajlin_ek@yahoo.com if you want the files.

Can someone explain why when I'm looking at a specific run in WinPEP, the plot looks different depending on whether the X-axis is speed or RPM. My first two dyno runs don't look like the paper printout that I got. When the X-axis is RPM, the curve stops abruptly at 6100 RPM. When the X-axis is MPH, the plot continues until the rev limiter is hit. Again, this is for a given run, not separate runs.

ps-USB key drive, eh? i wonder if that's how all the dyno shops around here do it
Don't worry about it; you weren't the only one who came and left. I just wasn't busy until later.

I don't know about other dyno shops. I guess it all depends on how their computers are configured. I don't think Steve's had a floppy drive. All he did was copy files over to the drive. Just go pick up a 32MB one for under $20.

Albert, check your PM.

I was also wondering the same thing. I can't seem to reproduce my printout with WinPEP. The numbers will also change depending on the smoothing. I get higher peak numbers with the 0 setting, but the lines aren't as smooth. The program does some sort of averaging.

Thumbs up dyno results

well, here's my dyno graph. i can't seem to export numbers, or pull up any a/f data. is that because i have a demo version? i applied the upgrade to it, but it didn't do anything. oh well.

The smoothing's impact on the peak I can figure out. Without smoothing, the max value is created by the jaggedness of the plot. When it's on max smoothing, the peaks and valleys in the plot are reduced, so your max HP won't be as high.

Anyway, I think I figured out why my plot for dynorun2 looks different when the X-axis is speed vs RPM.

When the HP is plotted against speed and with a second graph showing RPM at the bottom, you can see that just after 5.97K RPM, the reading is off on the RPM. The torque jumped during this time, so maybe the tires slipped. But I get reliable RPM readings later, around 6300-6600 RPM. I didn't plot the torque with this one, because the picture was getting too complex.

But once the RPM reading is off, the plot of HP vs RPM stops. I can't get any data to show up after that point.

Notice that my max HP is reduced in the second plot, because it's only going up to 5.97K RPM, even though the exact same run really went up to 6600 RPM.

These plots still look different from the printout, so maybe they were using a different version of the software. My max HP is at 6500 here, on the printout it's between 6600 and 6700. Close enough.

my winpep7 charts look almost exactly like the dyno chart, but yeah without smoothing, i have 269.12 and 253.10 torque woohoo! These are actuals, not SAE.

HA! beats me! the tires must've slipped. if you look at the HP graph, it correlates with the gap...(either that or i got really lucky at the dealer!)...

I just checked out olivers charts, he has the same spike. Wonder what causes that.

Yeah, that's a bit weird. Doesn't show up on the printout I received. Also goes away with different settings.

I have a question, what's the difference between a dynojet and mustangdyno? I know PowerTrain Dynamics was using a dynojet, but I read people refer it as a mustangdyno......... I'm confused, I need some clarification........

The mustang is another brand of dyno, they make both 2 and 4 wheel. The dynojet is another brand. They are different. People say Mustangs give lower numbers but are more realistic numbers because the load they put on the wheels. The mustang guys say the dynojet spins too freely, but good for wot tuning, while the mustang is good for tuning the whole band. I just read this stuff so don't quote me on it.
